Ok, so I've finally managed to get OSX installed by using the VMWare method. I set it to use the whole of my harddrive, not just the OSX partition, and installed Acronis OS Selector after the chain0 method threw up an error and I couldn't be bothered to resolve it.

I go to boot native...it works! I go to boot in VMware as well...it works!

I create a file...native won't boot anymore.

Now for some reason when I try to boot it gives me the dreaded "still waiting for root device error", but if I boot it in VMware (remember vmware has been set up to access the whole disk so I can boot it 2 ways) then it works without a problem. Does anyone have any ideas why native, and only native boot has died on me?

Oh, and for some reason the moment I boot OSX, Win XP disapears from Acronis OS Selector and my OSX partition gets marked as active (even though I didn't do it myself), so i have to use Darwin to boot my Windows partition. Could this be related to my native boot problem?

(p.s have tried using the 'rd' command with no success)

Your OSX partition needs to be active and primary to run so acronis makes this change for you...

And most times, Winxp partition cannot read other OSes hdds.

However, Vista and Linux can read WINXP hdd/partition without problems.

OSX can read hdd/partition of WINXP if it's FAT32.

Regarding bootloader issue - that's the price you pay to have both OSes! :)

You could try using chain0 or wingrub or grub but why bother?
