Dimac
Pentium 4, 3Ghz P4C800E-Deluxe (no AHCI in BiOS) RAM Adata 2GB nVidia XFX GeForce 6600GT ethernet VIA 6307 (hottest build of 2004) OSx86: iDeneb 10.5.8 v.1.6 Lite Edition Everything works, except for Sleep mode, have to shut it down every time. I installed with default customization, installation was a success, but didn't boot. Started adding, one by one: - kernel: 9.5.0 kernel Voodoo - boot HD: Drivers/Chipset/ICHx fix (no AHCI in mobo BiOS (only IDE and RAID - set to IDE); without AHCI it will forever be "Still waiting for root device" or the grey crossed Apple logo). If still doesn't work, try adding Drivers/Chipset/AHCI SATA-IDE The rest, deal with it after system installs and boots OK: - graphics card - NVDarwin 128MB <instead of 128 type your graphic card RAM size> (by default, it's 1024x768). Best use nVidia, as Apple has some feud with ATI drivers. ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 was leaving trails and artefacts after the cursor. - audio - AppleAC97Audio.kext - not included in the build, look for it online - DVD, USB, FireWire - worked out of the box - ethernet - should work by itself; if not, unplug the cord and plug it back in. Either that, or it starts working on its own a couple of minutes after the boot, hard to say. I tried AppleIntel8255x.kext for ethernet - caused kernel panic. To remove a bad kext manually, enter -s at the loader prompt to enter single mode. Once in text console, enter: mount -uw / sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/<Bad Kext Name>.kext and reboot. Good luck!
Gringo Vermelho
Use the 9.8.0 Voodoo kernel on 10.5.8. Get it from here. You will need system.kext from 10.5.8 as well, you can extract it from the 10.5.8 combo updater with Pacifist.
