Hi can any of u came across any guide or actually have an idea to install the Mac Pro 3,1 system definition?I already have Mac Pro 3,1 update backed up and ready...I remember comign across a guide at the begining of the year about how to do it but can't seem to find it again...I am trying to install lion but i noticed dat Mac Pro 3,1 would be one of the requirements to start..Your help will be greatly appreciated..thank you.

oh well why i asked is because i was trying to follow this guide at tonymacx86 to install lion when they said dat the requirements are

A System Running Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later with:

 • Intel Core 2 or above, 64 bit CPU
 • Mac App Store Account + $29.99
 • Internet Access to Download 4GB OS X Lion App through Mac App Store
 • 4GB space available in /Applications
 • 8GB additional free space on your hard drive
 • Mac Pro 3,1 system definition and the latest Chimera Bootloader from #####

But if i can install without that i don't have a problem it would be better for me actually...

Judging from your other posts you seem to be relying solely on TonyMac installer packages (easy/#####) and TonyMac information.

If they put that requirement in their guide there must be a reason for it, probably to do with the tools they are offering to help you install. I don't use these tools myself and never have so I won't be able to help you.

My humble suggestion is that if you're set on using TonyMacx86 packages and guides, then you should be asking for help on the TonyMacx86 forums.

well am not replying really...it's just i was succesful with ##### so dats why i opted to try that way with xmove + ##### since i am a little familiar with it...If there is an easier way i really don't mind trying it..

Easy/#####/whateverTonyMacx86/LeetDistro2011.iso are probably among the easiest ways there are, except when they don't work.

The issue is twofold:

1) Those who gravitate towards this type of tool don't know what to do when it doesn't work because there was no learning process or understanding involved and so they are completely lost on where to begin troubleshooting.

2) Experienced/advanced users are not equipped to help you when something goes wrong, because they don't use these tools and maybe never have. Or, like me, used something that was all the rage 3 years ago but is totally obsolete today, like Kalyway or OSX86Tools.

I can install retail OS X on the hardware that I own with my eyes closed, using only fakesmc.kext, Chameleon and a cup of coffee. I'm a {censored} ninja when it comes to install OS X on my own hardware. Other people's hardware, that I don't have access to and aren't familiar with - hmm, not so much. Not even a ninja turtle.

I have not updated to Lion yet, but when I do I'm going to buy it from the app store, run the installer and point it to a blank hard drive (that I haven't bought yet, this is why I'm still on Snow Leopard). From what I've seen and read so far, I'm confident that this will work, e.g, I will be able to boot into it with my existing Chameleon boot loader setup and only have to fix my AD2000B sound. The rest will just work.

Chances are good that anyone who's already running retail 10.6.8 with most modifications working via Chameleon from /Extra and /Extra/Extensions (i.e. non-Apple/OS X folders that will not be affected by an update) will be able to do the same, with minimal fuzz. 10.6.8 and Lion are very similar.

If you have 10.6.8 working, and you haven't made any modifications to original Apple kernel extensions in /System/Library/Extensions, then it should work. Think of Lion as a 10.6.9 update.

I like how u speak..it's really helping me to better understand how this mac thing goes down...About MacPro 3,1 I looked at the folders u specified and saw smbios.plst there..so what i did was replace that same smbios file in there with an already modified 1 from a friend who gave me his some months aback and rebooted and it's now saying 3,1...thanks for the lead again...Only thing i might not be able to follow tonymacs guide cause when i first run the Lion install it is not able to install on non Guid drives...so i could not go further...I am currently looking at a guide from a guy who made a tut to install lion..he has a similiar notebook with the same specs as mine...So far that's the only tut i might have to try hard to follow.......

I got 2 partitions 1 for win7 and the other for leopard so I Think I would swap out this drive I got now and use another one...Make 1 partition and format the whole dam thing too Guid and then do everythhing from scratch again..install 10.6.3 then update too 10.6.6 then update again too 10.6.8 bla bla bla then try that lion installation again and see if i might just be successful...If i am I would know where I stand and try to get it dual booting perfectly alongside win7.....
