jodo
Specs: *Pentium M Banias 1,5 without SSE3 *Intel 855i Chipset *ATI Radeon 9000 Mobility 32 MB (Vesa 2.0 mode @ 1400x1050x32) *Intel 2100B WLAN (no go) *Intel/Broadcom Gigabit Network (works) *Soundmax Digital Audio (works) *IBM Bluetooth II (works) *Teac 255 Combo CDRW (works) Installed from patched DEV-DVD (Release 1) + Maxxus 0.5c to a primary partition of my USB harddrive. Except specific ATI support and wirless everything worked out of the box, includig sound. No additional patches, kexts etc needed. Maxxus 0.5c improved the performance of ppc apps slightly. Everything is stable and very usable. The screen resolution set to 1400*1050 is awesome. Unfortunately the fan is running all the time... I had really a hard time installing the OS on my external HD. It contains a lot of data, which I didn't want to backup. First I tried to make a new partition and erase it with DiskUtility, but it refused to do so. Then I used Acronis Disk Director 9.0 to create an Apple UFS partition - didn't work as well. Somewhere in this forum I read about using ShagOS Swap - and therewith DiskUtility was able to format and mount the partition (create new partition: unformatted, change partition type: shag os, apply changes - no formatting). After formatting it, OSx86 was installed in about half an hour. (I removed the internal 2,5" HD for security reasons during the whole installation procedure) But then the partition table of my USB HD was gone, so no go again. I used partition table doctor to recover the NTFS partitions, unfortunately it did not recognise the HFS+ partition. So I created it again and this time I used PTD do make a backup of my partition table after creating the "ShagOS swap" unformatted partition. Again following the installation, again my partition table was gone. This time I restored the one from partition table doctor, rebooted, chose USB HD as boot device...et voilá - successful boot. All partitions are still there, now I also boot with the internal HD... Applying Maxxus 0.5c and setting the screen resolution to 1400x1050 in the Boot.plist was just a small step...unfortunately the font smoothing on my high res display looks really crappy, I already tried to get the best out of it. On my WinXP installation it is much better... Thanks to all guys out there who helped me to achieve this Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2660-successful-install-on-ibm-thinkpad-r50-1829-7rg/ Share on other sites
thrunner
Good tips about PTD (partition table doctor) and Acronis Disk Director 9.0. I find Acronis True Image is good for backing HFS+ partition (ShagOS) if you have WinXP on the same PC.
