brianbwlim
Many of the PPC applications run on X86 platform by in-time translation by Rosetta. They are fast but take almost 90 to 95% of CPU usage. (Inside Vmware, it is very hard to run PPC application due to heavy CPU usage.) If Aplle or somebody write some PPC to X86 pre-translator program, maybe the speed get faster and CPU usage get lower. DJP
I wondered the same thing. Pretranslation would be a much better thing, then translating the same piece of codes over and over again. rjtd
Transitive guys are not fools. If they do it this way, is because other way would not work, or because it would be slower. thrunner
Transitive designed Rosetta to run natively on the x86. They are not designed to be run on another translation layer such as VMware on top of another OS. CPU power is dirt cheap. Rosetta works quite well natively and is relatively CPU non-intensive. blkblt
There are also cases where pretranslation breaks down, like dynamically generated code, or self-modifying code. /blkblt Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2659-what-if-there-is-ppc-binary-to-x86-binary-pre-translater/#findComment-17023 Share on other sites
