Paoz
Once I used to install PowerPC App. And it automatically install Rosetta for me Then I was surprised because it has Rosetta prefpane come with it One month later I have to install new MacOS and then never see it again, no matter how much I try so... Does Rosetta really have prefpane come with it ? O_o? Is it essential for rosetta ? Where I can find it (It doesn't come with Retail DVD) Thank you Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/265845-does-rosetta-has-a-prefpane-that-come-with-it/ Share on other sites
smartie77
Rosetta is in 10.4.x ( Intel ) ,10.5.x ( Intel ) and 10.6.x but no longer in 10.7.x It has no prefpane and there is nothing one would or could set to operate it. It is just "there" and will only kick in whenever a ppc app is launched. For Snow 10.6 it is on the Retail DVD, but is not installed by default. When you try to launch a ppc app in Snow, it will download rosetta from the web. It is only a very small binary which goes by the name of "translate" and sits in /usr/libexec/OAH. All this "translate" exe does is to add shims between ppc code and translate them into Intel i386 code. With Lion 10.7 Apple decided to completely remove it and you can't re-install it with the SL version, it is dead and also disabled on a kernel base.
