xxshabsxx
Well essentially I'm getting this Kernel Panic and I have no idea what to do at the moment. When I tried to install SL, I got the same error. I was always able to install it fine, but when I get into booting...no matter what it doesn't work. I've tried iBooot, hackBoot Lion and Chameleon and still nothing... I've used cpus=1, -v, -x, -f....and also single user mode. I've searched the internet for my problem...and one again...nothing. What essentially happens, is that I install Lion fine...and when booting I get the error; Boot0: Test Boot0: Test Boot0: Error And then it stops there, and I have to restart the computer. With Hackboot as my bootloader (burned to a CD), I was also to enter the boot options to get my somewhere....and just as it's loaded everything I get a kernel panic... Panic (CPU 1 called 0x001b3db7) Local Apic Error, 64\n"@/sourcecache/xnu/xni-1699.22.36/osfmk/1386/lapic-native.c Then System Runtime Error in nanoseconds..... Essentially I'm going to rip my hair out because of this. I compiled the USB using both my laptop (booting SL VMWare) and on my sisters laptop (10.6.3). What I think my be a problem is that I do not have control over my advanced bios settings (InsydeH2O F.44) which means I cannot change SATA to AHCI. Is there a way to run Lion, without AHCI and is there any apparent errors that I have made. I am a complete novice at this, any help is appreciated as long as I can understand what you are talking about. Isn't there a way to put custom kernels into the installation in order for it to run without AHCI. And I really, really, really do hope your wrong (no offence) as I really do want mac on my system as our school runs only mac. If anyone can help me, and if it is possible to run it without AHCI then let me know, I read somewhere about making it run by editing the DSDT. I have full acess to my OSX hdd through my windows and can browse all the files. Anywho, you said you got through running the installer right? just unable to boot into newly semi completed install? Did your compiled USB drive include boot loader install and necessary kernel extensions i.e. fakesmc.kext? Of any possible methods to get things going, this script http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=185097 the most reliable solution with just about any DP version I thew at it, choose any needed kexts/DSDT for your hardware to be included in your usb installer. The directions available are smarter than me, look and you will find. If you already did all this and feel the install is good, the BootO error your getting may be due to chameleon looking to incorrect sleep image file location, which can be fixed using your lion install usb and instead of installing lion again, cancel and open terminal from utilities to correct this, don't recall he correct and incorrect file path but the procedure positivly is on google and this site. since its 5am and my brains all tired and stuff, I gotta leave that to you. When i installed it via USB and when I compiled the USB installer, I installed the Chameleon bootloader. The tutorial I followed was "Lion installation via USB stick using Chameleon" at the top of the page. I compiled it using a VMWare machine running SL and there wasn't a DSDT OR a fakesmc.kext file anywhere. Do I need them in the installation? ALso as I said above in my other post, it's not AHCI mode because my BIOS doesn't alow changing it to AHCI. I've tried modding it, but by the time I got to making the advanced menu hidden, I got an error which turns out to be that HP haven't compiled the advanced menu properly and none of the options work properly. So there is NO WAY at all that I can run it in AHCI. eep357
Still can't find any solutions and almost about to yell I'm so angry. I can get chameleon to run, just CANNOT seem to get it in boot no matter what option I use. Well your not gonna get very far booting with chameleon if no additional extensions were included. The available boot loaders like #####, boot123, xpc, ect. include fakesmc along with a with a few others for laptop keyboard, touchpad, along with an ext for the data controller, once the extensions are loaded by the bootloader you can remove the cd and swap in a retail dvd. issue is that even after installing lion, the boot loader u used to install with is still needed 1 more time for your first boot into osx, once your've booted in to the install you can install chameleon, along with the extension needed to run osx on your gear. USB install your try to use is supposed to skip the that part, but it ain't working sooo. Go see a guy named Tony, last name Mac, and he can get you a very easy to use post install tool to help with this along with bootloader to get you into your system and a good tutorial to go with it. when I have used the script method to make install USB, it had to be ran on the same system that OSX would be installed on, otherwise script would not include necessary kexts along with other settings for that hardware in the install USB, long story short doing it on a VM probably ain't gonna work . I assume u reformatted the HDD to HFS and GUID partition scheme from disk utility before the install.P.S: your gonna want a DSDT.aml and SMBIOS in your /extra folder. you can get by without DSDT if you like everything to break after a software update. Running same MB with same DSDT almost 4 years since early 10.5 and so far every update through software update has worked just like a real mac, never 1 problem. P.S.S:Always have a linux live CD like Ubuntu 11.04 handy, especially if u don"t have bootable backup clone of your OS hdd drive. No offense to the creator of the script you used, cause he's got mad skills, but go with a different method. Sometimes its just not one size fits all, especially laptops, and yes their bios options suck and many won't let you change much more than the password, but if you can get to the Lion installer(which you did) BIOS settings are not your problem. The 58 pages of comments on that guide aren't all people saying everything worked super easy. U do need SMBIOS and tools u used should have included one, but if u us the iMac 11,1 SMbios, it can sometimes be a bit more forgiving during boot up, I believe there are less system checks than with some of the older models. I use MacPro 3,1 but did need to use the iMac one temporarily, along with -x on DP2 cause it kept kernel panicking. Also I didn't read through all that guide you used so may be wrong, but typically the setup script needs to run on same computer you will install to. Thank you so much for your response, once again it's so helpful. When you're talking about the SMbios and the DSDT, how do I get them. I ran configured my boot usb bia a VMWare copy of SL, and the SL doesn't have a DSDT or a SMBIOS there. Can I get someone to make me one that is directly tailored to my system, so that it will boot fine? And I didn't install on a GUID as my windows was parition 0 in the same HDD. Instead, I left it as MBR and patched the install HDD so that it reads MBR instead of GUID, fixing the issue. Do you think thats why it's getting the panic, or not? Because other people are able to install on MBR fine. eep357
No, I really think it's due to using the VM to make your install USB. VM uses a simulated hardware listing so virtual OS does not see any of the actual hardware on your system, so your USB installer has been optimized to run based on hardware your do not have. Try one of the other methods available that don't preconfigure a USB installer. Not sure if you read between the lines on my prior post, but the install methods and utilities available at tonymacs site are the most noob friendly and hardware specific config is done post install from inside Lion on your PC/laptop. The smbios is a properly list file to identify what model, motherboard version and sn# your "mac" is and pass this info to the OS, ideally you'll want to use whichever one most closely matches your own hardware, but they are generic and not tailored to your specific system, here is example of mine. Using Macpro 3,1 as the quad xeon is almost identical to my Q6600 quad cpu. Just don't use one from a mac that is too old to run Lion, core 2 duo and newer models only. I'm pretty sue #####(name may have been changed for Lion and haven't used on Lion personally) will take care of this for you and includes option to install without DSDT which you can compile and add in later if you want. There are many pre configured ones available depending on your motherboard model but harder to find for laptops, hacked a friends dell laptop and it works fine without one. Once you get that far, if you have any probe with sleep or audio not working with what is available in the utility mentioned above, I can steer you in the right direction to get the extensions needed. since your coming from windows, easiest way to think about it in your kernel extensions (kexts) are like your drivers, and a DSDT is like a road map of all the hardware your system and mobo have, eliminating the need for some of these extra "drivers". OS software updates can sometimes replace the custom ones you installed with the orig versions so the fewer you need the better, and good DSDT will provide the most vanilla install and experience. in the meantime just make backup copies of them. SMbiosdate 01/02/08 SMbiosversion MP31.88Z.006C.B02.0801021250 SMboardproduct Mac-F42C88C8 SMfamily MacPro SMmanufacter Apple Inc. SMproductname MacPro3,1 SMserial ********* P.S. Since a lot of the Lion install methods are geared more towards the USB installer method(mostly due to how it's distributed via the app store) you may find it easier to install 10.6.6 first and once you have that running smooth upgrading to Lion using the same method your already did, exept all from within Snow Leopard, should be really easy and most your config will be done in the SL install first. Oh god I really do love you. Your posts are so good. But how do Install SL, I get the same kernel panic (dealing with the lapic.c). I've tried 3 variations with iAtkos with different boot options (cpus=1, -f, -v, -s, -x) and nothing seems to work. The closest thing to me, to a mac, is my sisters new macbook pro. However she got it Via. School, and due to the school being a scared little {censored}.... she doesn't have admin access. I can get her admin access, but the school will go ape, and I'm still there. Would I need to have admin access to do it? Also about the VMWare part, i'm not doing anything with the SMBIOS or the DSDT... I'm only unpacking the dmg from the appstore and compiling it onto my USB. There is nothing really done there that requires the use of the mac system files, apart from needing the mac to mount and copy the files. I really....really....really.... am stumped. I just cannot seem to get it to work. Only two things (aprt from using VMWare), is the fact that I have my disks set to MBR (changed the installations files to run on MBR) and that I cannot have AHCI as my bios doesn't support it. I'm almost 100% certain it's due to a BIOS issue, however I know that it is possible to patch the DSDT in order for it to run without AHCI enabled, but how do I get a DSDT to fit my system? Once again I really cannot begin to express how thankful I am. All of your posts are on my thread, and you write so much. If everyone were as helpful as you, then there wouldn't be any more problems. eep357
Best route to install SL is vanilla using retail DVD, this can be obtained and burned through various "sources" but you will need a DL DVD to burn it to, you can use a USB flash drive instead if preferred. Then you will need an smbios for macpro 3,1, #####+#####, both of which are avail for dl at tonymac along with pretty simple install guide. If your still having issues you can clone your windows install and do clean install to a GUID NFS+ partition then put your windows back on a new 2nd partition. smbios can be changed later to another model similar to your laptop, but I believe the retail/##### install method requires the macpro 3,1 version to get install done. The one I posted prev is complete except for serial #. You can copy and paste into text editor, name file smbios.plist and read here http://prasys.info/2009/11/understanding-mac-serial-number/ -how to get serial #. I've seen some other comments with HP laptop getting similar errors and using disk utility from the installer to reformat to a proper GUID HFS+(journaled) hdd may be a must for you. can also try acpi=force or acpi=off along with -x for your boot flags, may or may not help but real quick and easy to try.
