vvMINOvv
I've been looking around the forums for a while, and haven't found anyone with a Sony Vaio VGN-FW490 (or 400 series) with a successfull osx86 boot, and being not so brave, I figured the best way is to just run it on a VM. My only problem now is I don't know what to use for a host. I can't use my current win7 setup cuz there's quite a bit of stuff running almost all the time, and to close them and open them again once I was done with osX would be a huge pain. So far it seems xp is the best option, but I wanted to confirm with you guys. Maybe you know better but as far as I know, any of the linux distros won't have propper drivers for my ATI gpu, which means as light as the host may be, it's not fully utilizing the hardware I have. Do you know of a minified version of xp maybe? or a linux distro that has proper drivers? (I believe the ATI card I'm using is actually used in some of the MBP, so maybe we can give mac direct access to the card and let it's drivers figure it out? ) As you can tell I'm not entirely a VM geek, but I know my way around a computer pretty well. So suggest away and I'll research all the options you give me. Thank you very much in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/265529-what-is-the-lightest-host-i-can-use-for-vmware/ Share on other sites

beecher
Linux or windows xp should do but you have to have hardware virtaulization enabled Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/265529-what-is-the-lightest-host-i-can-use-for-vmware/#findComment-1738542 Share on other sites

VMWare has its own virtual/emulated video card that your VM will be using. It will never know what video card is installed on the host. Grootstyr
PCI-passthrough is perhaps an option, although I don't know in which versions PCI passthrough is available.
