SpeedfreaK
Hello all, I have been searching for a long time now on this forum and the macvidia forum how to change the refresh rate in mac os x86!! I'm running 10.4.1, so the macvidia driver won't work, my card is a geforce 4 mx and darwin detects it as a VESA 3.0. Many people say that i have to boot in single user mode and type "graphics mode.........." but i can't find the @ on the keyboard (i'm using a azerty and darwin thinks it's a qwerty). I also tried to change the boot file, but i can't safe it and when i make the changes in the terminal, i got some weird messages and tried to safe it under mac os format, but when i boot i have no changes.... I also tried it with Display Config X (http://www.3dexpress.de/) but when i rebooted, it refused to boot... Can someone give me some simple commands to change the refresh rate to 75 hertz, because 60 hertz is a torture for my eyes! Rammjet
Well, thanks for the @ key, but when i type this in single user mode: "Graphics Mode"="1024x768x32@75" it returns something like invalid command or command not found... What am i doing wrong? You don't want to type that in single user mode, just at boot up. When you boot, the screen turns black and then grey with a spinning icon. As soon as the screen turns black, start tapping the F8 key quickly and repeatedly until a command prompt appears. Type Graphics Mode=1024x768x32@75 (no quotation marks) Then press Enter to boot. If this helps your video then, you want to add this to your boot.plist file so you don't have to keep typing it. Edit the boot.plist file at "/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist" and add the following: <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1024x768x32@75</string> You can edit the file by dragging it to the Desktop and editing it with TextEdit, then dragging it back, answering the 2 resulting dialogs - Authenticate and yes to replace, then followed by using Disk Utility to repair permissions on the OSX partition. Or you can do it via Terminal with this command: sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26528-please-will-someone-give-me-some-working-advice/#findComment-179997 Share on other sites

Mofo-X
As he said, hit F8 so you get the boot options screen, you should get this BEFORE the grey screen with the apple (same screen you have been typing -s in) instead of typing -s type the following, WITH the quotes "Graphics Mode"="1024x768x32@80" Hit enter, try that, if it works, move onto @85 , if it works, do 1280x1024x32@80, if it works goto @85 etc. Regards, {censored}-X Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26528-please-will-someone-give-me-some-working-advice/#findComment-180854 Share on other sites
SpeedfreaK
this doesn't work, my system reboots as soon as i press enter, even when i give the command with the refresh rate at 60 hertz. And the macvidia driver doesn't work for my, and my system won't boot when i update to 10.4.6, so i think i just cant change the refresh rate, am i right? Mofo-X
Greetings, Correct, If your system immediatly reboots after you specify that graphics mode and resolution then the Card/Driver you have will not support greater resolutions. You will have to upgrade to use the MacVidia driver.
