(this thread was originally posted here, but since too much off topic, therefore I continue it here)

OSX runs natively on my pc. :D Specs below in signature.

Natively with alot of issues (no sound yet, no networking yet).

(See review link in signature below).

But that's the whole challenge about osx86 on non-intel developpers pc, right?

So far I've installed the Maxxuss 0.5c patch and thus continuing to get familiar with osx

what I started to discover on Aqua-soft and PearPC.

And I like it so far.

The thing is all the PowerPC apps crash on me. I suspect I'm doing something wrong,

but I can't seem to find the source of it on my own.

----

Some Symptoms:

- Preview app, select to open with Rossetta--> stil no image in main window.

- PowerPC apps don't start (for instance Office 2004, which Steve Jobs even got to run on WDC and is reported to work all over the boards). Starting the app makes it appear on the dock and then dissolve.

Not good I guess.

- iTunes don't start either

- But Safari does, although crashes all to many times

- in my log I see loads&loads of referrals to 'oah750h' & 'ATSServer' crashing.

Hypothesis

I failed to install the SSE3 --> SSE2 patch correctly???

Question How do I check if this is the case? What could I do about it?

---

It appears that in AMD PCs running with Rosetta checkbox does not work. If you run directly with a command works, also PPC only binaries works too.

Try /usr/libexec/oah/oah750 /Applications/Preview.app/Contents/MacOs/Preview &

No I don't understand. I open terminal. Sudo -s to enter root. Enter the line you advice.

Get following message:

dyld: Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Framewroks/CoreGraphics.framework/Version/A/CoreGraphics

Referenced from: /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationsServices.framework/Versions/A/ApplicationsServices

Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:

:)

What the heck does this all mean????

Even with those AMD with SSE3 fails.

Do this mean no one with AMD cpu (be it SSE2&patched, be it SSE3 enabled) can run powerpc apps?

Or does it mean the *open with Rosetta option doesn't work on them and you have to use a command to start Powerpc apps on them (what I obviously do not understand how to use properly yet).

Does this mean that even if my SSE3-->SSE2 patch was applied properly (which I still suspect not to) I have to enter large-than-large command lines to (for instance) run PowerPC Office 2004? That sucks bigtime. Couln't I make something like batchfiles for it?

Could someone please enlighten me...

* What do the dyld[/] stuff quoted above mean?

* Did I do siomething wrong?

* How do i make it work properly (if possible)?

* command lines? How? Every time I want to use PowerPC apps? Batch file-like sollution?

First of all you don't need to use sudo o root login to use the command because you have permissions as user to run applications.

What the AMD with SSE3 does not work also means that the checkbox does not affect those aplications, but certainly they can run PPC apps, I can run iTunes, TextWrangler, Toast, and other PPC (only) apps and I have a SSE2 only AMD.

I patched my installation with the last Maxxuss' patch.

See these pics, one of the is Preview running with Rosetta, the other is System Preferences' Processor Panel

My Maxxuss 0.5c install reports the following

(please not the stuff I accentuated in bold):

w-s-computer:~ root# /Volumes/MAXXUSS0.5c/install.sh

###### MacOSX SSE3->SSE2 Runtime Patcher & Emulator #####

###### and Anti-TPM-Patch #####

###### v0.5c - By Maxxuss - Sep 7, 2005 #####

(snap info)

== Press RETURN to begin ==

What do you want to do:

i - Install Maxxuss v0.5 Solution

r - Restore Backup Files (uninstall Maxxuss solution)

Your choice? (i/r): i

====== Step 1/3 [sSE3->SSE2]: mach_kernel v0.5

- This is a patched Mac OS X Kernel.

- It contains a SSE3->SSE2 Runtime Patching & Emulation.

- You should install it only if you have a SSE2 CPU, i.e. no SSE3!!

Install? (y/n): y

-> Backup created: /mach_kernel.bak5

cp: sse2/mach_kernel: No such file or directory

-> Kernel with Maxxuss SSE3 patching & emulation installed: /mach_kernel

====== Step 2/3 [Anti-TPM & SSE3->SSE2]: System files

You will be able to additionally choose between SSE3 and prepatched for SSE2 system files.

Install? (y/n): y

Please choose between SSE3 and SSE2-prepatched system files!

- The SSE2-prepatched files improve speed a little bit for CPUs with only SSE2.

- If don't know what to do, choose SSE3 system files -- this will work on both SSE3 and SSE2 (since SSE3 opcodes are emulated with the Kernel from Step 1).

- In any case, the oah750 file will contain a Anti-TPM patch.

Press 3 for SSE3 and 2 for SSE2-prepatched (2/3): 2

-> Backup created: /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CoreGraphics.framework/Versions/A/CoreGraphics.bak5

cp: sse2/CoreGraphics: No such file or directory

-> SSE2 Pre-patched file installed: /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CoreGraphics.framework/Versions/A/CoreGraphics

-> Backup created: /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib.bak5

cp: sse2/libSystem.B.dylib: No such file or directory

-> SSE2 Pre-patched file installed: /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib

-> Backup created: /usr/libexec/oah/oah750.bak5

cp: tpm/sse2/oah750: No such file or directory

-> Anti-TPM, SSE2 Pre-patched file installed: /usr/libexec/oah/oah750

====== Step 3/3 [Anti-TPM]: oah750d System file

This contains an additional required Anti-TPM patch.

Install? (y/n): y

-> Backup created: /usr/libexec/oah/oah750d.bak5

cp: tpm/oah750d: No such file or directory

-> Anti-TPM file installed: /usr/libexec/oah/oah750d

w-s-computer:~ root#

"No such file or directory..." seems that the installer tries to copy the files to locations OS X doesn't see them. But if I check their respective directory in OS X...they are there :blink: ?!?

I also noted that the size of the files CoreGraphics, libSystem.B.dylib & mach_kernel differ greatly in size to the ones in OSX's respective directories. This all leads me to believe I'm doing something completly wrong to install the SSE#-->SSE2 patch or at least the installer doesn't work in my case. Can someone please guide me in this matter? MaXXuss? Anybody? :(

Dear Maxxuss,

I just can't see what I'm doing wrong installing the 0.5c patch?

Could I ask for a minute of your time to look into the matter summarised here?

OK, it seems that you're not in the patch folder. Do this exactly:

- Insert CD or mount ISO

- Open Terminal.app

- Type "cd /Volumes/Maxx" and now press Tab-Key, followed by Return.

- You should now be in the right folder. To check, type "ls -la". You should see the install.sh script and also three sub-folders: sse2, sse3 and tpm.

- Now type: sudo ./install.sh

Thankyou for your fast responses Maxxuss, MacGirl, Myzar & Zeph.

The SSE3 --> SSE2 patch now works perfectyl!

Now Safari no longer crashes. And the Opera browser now works too.

So does iTunes (without sound, but I'll work on that, maybe I get the .kext editing working, it shoud be possible since I've got the ALC850). And I've finally got Office 2004 working now.

So the SSE3-->SSE2 patch is finally installed correctly.

I'm inserting a copy of the install log below here, for maybe it can help others too:

The PowerPC apps work (though all a tad slow, probably because I use OS X through VMware instead of native so I can use Maxxuss' VMware ethernet driver, which btw works flawlessly for me.

I'm gonna fiddle a but with other people suggestions for better IDE drivers than the standard one.

Hope that'll gain me some speed in read/wrtie disk accessing.

As far as networking natively is concerned I'm thinking about buying a compatible Realtek PCI card to be able to suft natively (wouldn't that be faster???), but I hesitate for now since the news is there's a new version of x86 Tiger out and I first want to wait what that brings us. Before I buy something that the next version doesn't support or it all of a sutton does recognise my onboard Realtek 8201 chip or some comes up with .kext patch that gives us the same result. I imagine Patience is key, don't you guys agree?

For now I think I'm gonna OSX86 for a while through vmware/mail.app/safari-Opera/Office 2004 Mac...
