So I've been following the hackintosh scene for a while. I've got a Dual G5 that I'd like to sell - it's the past, and Intel is the future. I can sell it for just about what it would cost to build a similar hackintosh, so...

I'd like to get one as easy to put together as possible - I'm not a newbie (I've built and run Linux servers for years), but I don't have a ton of time to spend on this, either (baby on the way).

So, here's what I'm thinking: https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishli...itle=Hackintosh

Lian Li PC3077A Silver Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

Intel BLKDG965RYCK Socket T (LGA 775) Intel G965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

Intel BOXDG965SSCK Socket T (LGA 775) Intel G965 Express Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

ASRock ConRoeXFire-eSATA2 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945P ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

SeaSonic S12-330 ATX12V 330W Power Supply - Retail

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6300 - Retail

mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit System Memory

I'm hoping all the on-board stuff works (FW, USB, Net, graphics, sound), with or without hacks and drivers. Any passively cooled graphics card (I want QUIET) that's recommended without much pain?

How much of this would work with minimal installation hacks? I have the JaS DVD for 10.4.7.

Any other motherboards I should be looking at?

Thanks!

C2D 6300 working well with Asus P5LD2-VM (Rev2)

Asus x1600eax(?) silent - with heat pipe - borisbade hint

has onboard GMA950 video - not as fast but works well

nic works

easy fix for audio -> add AppleAzalia kext with correct device id

This board doesn't overclock well - running at just over 2GHz. The full sized P5LD2 (Rev2) will allow higher frequency. Rev 2 is essential for Core2.

Thanks for the reply - looks like either the ASROCK-DVI motherboard or the Asus one is the best at the moment. I'm torn - I plan on using the onboard video for a while until it sorts itself out for a bit. I'm going to use Photoshop & video editing a lot, and 2-D is way more important than 3-D, so on-board video would work. VGA sucks, though, so the Asrock board w/ DVI is really attractive.

Can't get it locally, though, and I hate that the LAN port won't work.

Wish there was a "perfect" board out there, that just more-or-less worked.

DVI, low-power video, gigabit LAN, 4 memory slots, quiet, etc. I almost pulled the trigger at NewEgg, but they jacked up the price of the memory at the last minute! Turds...

Check out my sig for my system. I use the ConroeXfire-eSata2. Lan does not work. Sound requires plist editing and is Stereo out only but at least it's out thru the green jacks. Everything else is OK. For graphics I use the MSI 1600pro, works well but single monitor only via the DVI.

All in all, not a bad system. Affordable too. 975 boards were too expensive for me. I had probs with JaS 10.4.7. Couldn't connect to Windows shares so I went back to JaS 10.4.6 and then did a manual upgrade using JaS 10.4.7 updater & Semjaza's 10.4.7 decrypts.
