stlouis1
I'm looking to replace an 8600GTS in my current core 2 quad hackintosh to something with a lower power draw. Part of the reason is that the machine is built into a cheap SFF case with an oddball low wattage power supply. sometimes it takes a few tries to get display during post and i have a feeling its not getting enough juice, so i want to cut it down some since im not doing anything graphics intensive I'm looking at something of a 9500gt, GTS 210, maybe a GT 430, 440. from what i read, any of the above should work. what i'm wondering is if there's specific ones that may be less picky than others or if its really the same ball game all around? i know i've seen a few posts about dual monitor issues with dvi/vga combo's? would it be best to stick to dual DVI card? MaaseyRacer
They do not use less power than your 8600GTS. Your 8600 uses around 71w, the 9500 uses around 90w and the GT430/440 use 5-10w less than your current card. You are probably better off spending some money on a better power supply, then later on down the road purchasing a better video card.
