1. it might be a little late to help you. but I have SL running on my system. Essentially what I did was follow this guide http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=276238&hl=p8z68%20deluxe&st=0 Now I still have a few issues. but here's the story I have initially tried lion, and had most of it working, but no matter what I did I could not get dual displays and full acceleration with my GTX460, it seemed to be one or the other. so then I tried SL and had the same startup issues as you.... So what I did was install the hard drive in another machine and installed SL that way. then I updated to 10.6.7 and was able to boot the drive on the new i7 system. Before doing further updates I captured an image of the drive just in case because when I installed 10.6.8 on my G53 laptop it segfaulted....I ended up with the same issue during the 10.6.8 update on this system so i restored the image and then cloned the drive to an external and installed 10.6.8 to the external and ran speedstepper and swapped the drives. its booting now. I also have lan and full display capabilities. bluetooth seems to work though untested. I'm still working on audio, and none of my USB ports work there was probably an easier way to achieve this without swapping drives around like i did, but I can't argue with results. I'm wondering if flashing one of th ebios' in the above guide may have worked around it all though. at this point, I'm not starting over unless I have too
2. [Guide] Asus P8Z68 Deluxe

I've followed most of the guide here to get SL 10.6.8 on my new i7 with the p8z68 mobo. but i have a few issues can't get my audio working. tried applying the xmls and plist to my applehda using hda wizard, but it doesnt seem to update the file and doesnt ask for a password.... so im not sure it's modifying it none of my usb ports work, usb2/3. i did rollback the usb though, should i not have done that I also can't apply the efi string which i think may be part of my issue with audio, if i do, i end up with 1 monitor only. I have a GTX460 if that means anything other than that, at the moment I have full display capabilities, sata controllers are recognized, lan works, bluetooth seems to be available though untested. could use some help with the finishing touches
3. I just setup a new system, Specs below Asus P8Z68 Deluxe i7 2600k 8gb DDR3 Dual GTX460 768 (msi cyclones) I consider myself fairly knowledgeable when it comes to alot of this stuff. Though some of the DSDT stuff has me stumped, well all of it really. But I've setup enough hackintosh's at this point that I typically know what I'm looking for or where to find information I need to get things going. I found this guide as well which helped for the setup. http://www.insanelym...xe&fromsearch=1 My problem is this. I had my dual display working until I applied the string in the org.chameleon.boot.plist form the above guide with the string to get the audio working. then upon rebooting I can only get 1 display. This is my 4th installation so far, I had tried the latest nvidia driver update on the third install and could only get video on 2 out of 50 reboots without changing a dam thing, WTF anyway, right now i'm using the lion driver, and I'm stuck with 1 monitor I've done some digging and I understand the second card is essentially a paperweight as long as its in mac OS, but I dual boot windows on this machine so the second card stays. I'm wondering if I should run GFXutil and add a string for the card or if there's a better solution? I just find it odd that it worked until i added the string for the audio here's my current plist if it helps <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>EthernetBuiltIn</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1600x1200x32</string> <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string></string> <key>Rescan</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>UseKernelCache</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>5</string> <key>device-properties</key> <string>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</string> </dict> </plist>
4. OH so a Packages link is created on the usb key? i have to remove it and create a folder so the DMG that i have mounted, also the one i restored to the usb key, i take the files from the packages folder on it, and copy them to the packages folder on the usb key? i think i get it now
5. i tried this guide last night, and maybe i'm an idiot, but i think something is missing. it wasn't working for me. i can follow everything leading up to this point just fine. restoring the image to a usb key, etc, and everything after this point, ie, installing the boot loader and installing the other thing. but this????? After the restoration, open the restored partition, navigate to System/Installation, delete the Packages link and create a folder with the same name, Packages. Open Terminal and run the command: CODE open /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ ESD/Packages Copy the files to the Packages folder created previously. what files am i supposed to copy to the packages folder!?!?
6. Asus G53 Snow lepoard install

I've been strugling for over a week to get the right combination to work on this new Asus G53Sw laptop. now its almost perfect with SL 10.6.7 i've got lan, wifi, display, and usb3 working 100% the only problem other than it only shows 4gb of ram even though it recognizes two 4gb sticks in the about this mac, is the audio crackles it works, but it crackles. i saw something somewhere about replacing the voodoohda in the preboot.dmg that i copied from the ##### disc to the extra folder, but i have no idea how to do that. do we have a guide somewhere on here, that a newb like myself can follow? or can someone point me in the right direction? i'd really like to be able to use the mic jack for recording if i can, if not though, at least if there was a way to disable the audio entirely? like blacklisting modules in linux?
7. I'm looking to replace an 8600GTS in my current core 2 quad hackintosh to something with a lower power draw. Part of the reason is that the machine is built into a cheap SFF case with an oddball low wattage power supply. sometimes it takes a few tries to get display during post and i have a feeling its not getting enough juice, so i want to cut it down some since im not doing anything graphics intensive I'm looking at something of a 9500gt, GTS 210, maybe a GT 430, 440. from what i read, any of the above should work. what i'm wondering is if there's specific ones that may be less picky than others or if its really the same ball game all around? i know i've seen a few posts about dual monitor issues with dvi/vga combo's? would it be best to stick to dual DVI card?
8. Asus G53 Snow lepoard install

so Ableton is a no go on Lion for now? that one i can live without until an update is available since i only use it for a couple filters and some effects. what i need most is Traktor or Deckadance. i'm pulling the latest dev build i could find right now, its crawling, but i should be set to get started with it tomorrow when i get home from work. At least that way i can start testing and see what works and what doesn't before its offically released as long as my sound cards and mixer are as plug and play with lion as they are with snow leopard, i'm sure i'll be ok. edit// just did some quick searching, and from recent posts on the NI boards, it seems traktor should work fine.
9. Asus G53 Snow lepoard install

I have been considering 10.7, the only thing i'm worried about is program compatibility with Traktor, Deckadance, Ableton, and then there's Jackaudio that i use for re-routing in's and out's I managed to get the 10.6.8 update to install last night without segfaulting, but now it doesn't boot anymore. so i'm beyond teh display and crackled sound problems again. maybe i'll take a stab at 10.7 if you say the display works natively i really would like to be able to run an output from my mixer to the mic jack for recording if it will work. it would save me running a cable to my machine in the other room since windows realy can't do audio, my last recording was pooched because of it
10. Asus G53 Snow lepoard install

well, ive managed to get a boot loader installed using ##### that i got on the tony mac forum so thats one item down now i can't seem to get it to use the GTX 460m. it did recognize it before as a GTX460 and the ram on it, but not now. and i still can't get the screen resolution to go right i also still have issues with the sound
11. Asus G53 Snow lepoard install

I'm going to apologize in advance as this may be a long post. but here it is last week I got an Asus G53SW, i'm determined to get it running OSX as that's what I bought it for. why this one over other laptop? the simple answer is 1080p screen resolution, its tough to find in laptops these days, and i do need the real estate for my applications i'm going to try to detail as much as i can without losing sight of the main point. i don't have everything working yet as i'm still missing a few things. so i am asking for some help to a degree while i offer information on what has worked thus far SPECS (pulled from the asus page) Intel® Core™ i7 2630QM Processor Chipset Intel® HM65 Express Chipset Memory DDR3 1333 MHz SDRAM, 4 Display 16'' 16:9 Full HD (1920x1080) LED Backlight Graphic NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 460M 1.5GB GDDR5 VRAM Storage Optical Drive Card Reader 5 -in-1 card reader ( SDXC/ MS/ MS Pro/ MS Duo/ MMC) Camera 2.0 Mega Pixel Fixed web camera Networking Integrated 802.11 b/g/n Built-in Bluetooth™ V2.1+EDR (Optional) 10/100/1000 Base T Interface 1 x Microphone-in jack 1 x Headphone-out jack 1 x USB 3.0 port(s) 3 x USB 2.0 port(s) 1 x RJ45 LAN Jack for LAN insert 1 x HDMI Audio Built-in Speakers And Microphone Battery 8Cells : 5200 mAh 74 Whrs I've also bumped the ram up to 8gb, and put in a 60gb OCZ Agility 3 SSD Getting started I used the latest ##### with the following command switches to start the setup from a 10.6.3 disc -v arch=i386 busratio=9 maxmem=4096 PCIRootUID=1 I do have problems running 10.6.3 whether starting the setup from the CD, or running the installation on the hard drive afterwards. It seems to just lock up at random everytime I reboot. To work around, i have to remove the battery, and AC adapter, and then hold the power button for about a minute, and start over. it took me 5-7 tries to get it installed, and then another 5-7 to boot that installation. After the installation finishes, i run ##### again to startup from the hard drive using the same command switches -v arch=i386 busratio=9 maxmem=4096 PCIRootUID=1 Update once i get it installed. I updated using the 10.6.7 combo update. i've found that the 10.6.8 update segfaults, whether i use the web update, or offline combo update. 10.6.7 seems to be the highest this one goes After the update is finished, i can start the system using #####, but no command switches needed now, just select the OSX install on the drive, and let it run normal Patches Once running 10.6.7 i install ##### that i grabbed on the tonymac site I haven't been able to get a boot loader working right, i'm probably an idiot, so this is one item still on my todo list From ##### i do install the Kext Helper and showall files app Once Kext Helper is installed, i toss in the below kexts -AR9285 kext found at the link below, not entirely tested, but it sees wireless networks http://www.kexts.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1279 - voodoo battery kext http://www.kexts.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=192 DSDT Auto-Patcher works as well. unfortunately i don't quite get what to do with the DSDT file, from what i gather i probably need a working bootloader for this to do anything? I also have yet to get my display to run at full resolution, it seems to see the card as a GTX 460m, but my screen its running at 1024x768, could use a hand fixing this I also have garbled sound, i've found steps for this, haven't tried it though. i'm not too concerned about the internal audio as ill be using external interfaces anyway. though it would be nice to have the internal working for recording purposes so right now, i need help with the boot loader, and display, if anyone has anything?
