Arangotang
I just found out about hackintoshes, and I've tried to install Snow Leopard on multiple occasions, but whenever I finish installing I get the "still waiting for root device" error. What would be the solution for a Dell Inspiron 530 with a Pentium Dual @ 2.00 GHz and an ATI Radeon HD 3600? Adam Sleith
Are you using any IDE devices? Sometimes you will get this error if you are using only sata. This happened to me. It was rather strange because I heard that sata is better to use for osx86... Hope i helped Adam Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/261357-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-1709906 Share on other sites

Arangotang
I think I'm using SATA but I'll have to double check. I'll also check to see if I've set AHCI in my bios. EDIT: My SATA Mode is IDE. I'm not sure if I could find AHCI anywhere. I'll try updating my BIOS revision Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/261357-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-1709997 Share on other sites
MacNB
I think I'm using SATA but I'll have to double check. I'll also check to see if I've set AHCI in my bios. EDIT: My SATA Mode is IDE. I'm not sure if I could find AHCI anywhere. I'll try updating my BIOS revision I have a Dell 530 and I have successfully installed Mac OS X 10.6.8. If you want 4 SATA devices, then you will need to the SATA mode to IDE and use a specific driver (kext). If you have two or less SATA devices, then set the SATA mode to RAID (this will be same as AHCI). This should be your default choice. Now the bad news. Your ATI 3600 is not support under MAC os. I swapped mine out for an NVIDIA GT 240 - this one works out of the box (including native resolutions and hardware graphics acceleration). You could try reading thorugh this post that may help you here Also, see this guide for Dell 530 here Will require a lot patients and coffee Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/261357-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-1723400 Share on other sites
