magicbronson
I found a link on this site to McDo Design and I downloaded the "MacBook" icon set. Now I would like to change the icon for "Computer" (as in Finder>Go>Computer) to one of the MacBook icons. I have always used the copy and paste method to change icons before, but there seems to be no way to "Get Info" on your whole computer (understandably). Is it possible to change its icon some other way, without resorting to some program? Thanks, Josh Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26100-how-to-change-computer-icon/ Share on other sites

magicbronson
spoke too soon: though i can get info on "Computer", i can't change the icon via copy and paste. probably because it says i only have read permissions when i get info on it, even though this is account has administrator privileges. any ideas? magicbronson
How do I log in as root? I thought that like Ubuntu, there was no root user account on OS X, just administrator accounts that can sudo. The farthest I got was "$ sudo open /" to open the window in Finder with administrator privileges, but it didn't work (when I got info I still didn't have admin privileges). Applications --> Utilities --> Netinfo Manager. then menu: Security --> Authenticate (password) then Security --> Enable Root User But I'm sure there's lots of other threads teaching you how to do it (search button is your friend ) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26100-how-to-change-computer-icon/#findComment-190521 Share on other sites

phor2zero
I have a very similar problem. I'm trying to change the icon for my Windows bootcamp volume, which is formatted NTFS and thus not modifiable. I want to change the icon as it appears on the bootcamp OS selection screen when you boot up. I changed the "Macintosh HD" icon on my desktop and the change is reflected in the bootup screen, but I can't change the windows drive icon, even with candybar! Any other ideas other than candybar?
