hello everyone. good to see so much help already here!

im trying to get osx onto my PC but im running into a few snags.

first off my system specs

AMD athlon 64 x2 6400+

ASUS M2N SLI-Deluxe

4GB Gskill DDR2 PC2-6400(2GBx2 sticks)

XFX 8800GT i dont know the full specs on this... i do know its 512 though. its been a while since ive looked at it.

WD 320GB SATA HDD

Sony IDE DVD drive

now. ive only been working on this for a total of now 4 days.

ive tried to install 3 different distros... got one of them to install. but kernel panic on boot from sleepenabler.kext

ive searched up and down on how to remove this... and it simply is not in the folder described.. the extensions folder does not exist.

this was on the hazard distro of 10.6.2

so onto the next one.

i went diving through the hardware lists in the wiki and came across this distro

SnowLeo Mac OSX86 for intel/AMD (32/64) ENG

this was listed as working with my MOBO. i put it on DVD... and get "still waiting for root device" all day long.

i tried putting it on USB... but this caused an EBIOS error. also after i think i solved that... it said error loading operating system.

ive read that i need an IDE HDD.... so i found one... no change in the still waiting for root device.

ive tried jumper settings... my bios has AHCI only on the Jmicron SATA controller. but this is one port... besides.. it didnt work that way either.

so im going today to buy an SATA DVD drive... hopefully this will be the fix.

im not trying to install alongside windows... im trying to have a standalone system here.

i know it cant be all my hardware... because it will load the hazard distro and install it but with kernel panic... i also cant find a way to remove sleepenabler before install.

23 views and not one "hi welcome" ?

i see how its going to be....

anyway... i got my SATA drive

still having issues. im working with the HAZARD distro now. i went to leohazards and got the patch to update the distro... did that and now still having issues.

it will get all the way through the install... tells me at the beggining it has 8-9 min to finish. i wait....then at the end. it says install could not make osx boot. try using startup disk to boot

i restart with out using startup disk.. change boot order to HDD first... and boots into chameleon... i hit space bar to enter options. boot with -v -f -x and it boots to apple screen.. and sits there. 15 min later.. it said before you begin... your keyboard is not recognized.. ok.. USB Zboard BTW. i switch to PS/2.. now keyboard is inactive in installer. works in the boot loader.

so im reinstalling now. chose the PS2 fix listed as option.. chose amd patch. didnt choose graphics lan or audio... trying bare min here. also chose modbin kernel.

the install is in the last min here... hang on....a minute has gone by....now 2...3....

while were waiting... first time around on this i chose a bunch of options in installer. and i think thats what caused my problems....

oh and look at that... install failed. says the installer could not make the computer start up from the volume.

im going to do what i did and restart and change bios...

kernel panic sleepenabler

reboot with boot flags -v -f kernel panic sleepenabler...

reboot with boot flags -v -x same thing.

reboot with -v -f -x same thing..

So the main problem is the "still waiting for root device" not? well I have the same problem as you, downloaded many distros, and the problem was that, i had kernel and solved it, well, try to download a retail version of snow leopard and install it with the boot cd for amd, then try :D if not ,try booting with rd=diskX (you have to replace X with the port where is placed the dvd drive or try with the hdd )

So I have gotten iPC to install and I'm booted into leopard 10.5.6 after several attempts today. Everything is NOT ok...lol

I have no sound....however....I think I know the problem...(forgot to plug in the speakers....oops) so I will check that in the morning.

I am a total noob to the Mac OSx. I mean total. But I am completely fed up with windows and it's problems. I'm sitting here typing this post from my iPad because the windows machine I was using earlier decided it can't keep up with how slow I type....

So please bear with me as I try and keep up with what everyone says to do... Please pictures will be helpful.

So I'll get down to the problems I notice first.

1: To boot the system takes upwards of ten minutes from the time I push the button and sitting on desktop.

2: I can't seem to find the video control panel...or how do I change the resolution. When I go to system profiler it says I have 64mb VRAM...I know I have 512

3: system profiler hangs when I click on sata

4: I loaded ps/2 keyboard fix....didnt see my ps/2 keyboard...but saw my USB zboard and I was in. Ps/2 keyboard still not working.

5: marvins amd utility....it freezes system...I have no idea how to use it.

So those are my main concerns at the moment.... Mainly the video and boot time

The options on install I believe were:

Voodoo kernel 9.6

Ac97 audio

Elliot CMOS fix

And I'm sorry but that's all i can remember it's been a long day looking at options kernel panics errors and everything else I will post up in the morning exactly what I used

A quick reminder to everybody: the most relevant part of your hack is your mobo.

So the best way to find info is to google like this:

ASUS M2N SLI-Deluxe insanelymac

Your video card and you hard disk are fine, no problems there.

I don't see why you can't be running SL 10.6.7. Helping you get Leopard set up is sorta like helping someone install Windows 98. Friends don't let friends install old operating systems. Anyhow, as far as the SleepEnabler KP goes, when you boot, just type pmVersion=0 and it will disable the SleepEnabler.kext. Once you boot up, you can start to figure out why it caused a panic. Oftentimes, it is due to a mis-match between the kernel and the SleepEnabler.kext. Those kexts, unfortunately, are kernel-specific. I don't make it into the New Users Lounge too often. Be sure to look in other parts of the forum for answers. I don't think I have ever had someone specifically answer any of my questions but I have always managed to find the answers to my questions on this forum or, ocassionaly, on another OSx86 forum.

anyway... fixxed the system profiler hanging when selecting serial ata to read specs... i installed new applenforceata.kext

im now getting kernel panic mounting DMGs

i still have no sound. but i still havent installed a driver for it. im going to work on that in a min after i fix the DMG problem... apparently i need the seatbelt.kext for 10.5.5? anyone verify this?

ive tried to install SL and keep getitng kernel panic for sleep enabler.

i think this is becasue of the modbin kernel. i seriously do.

i have a spare drive in a dell E310 that im going to swipe and try again.. this install on this HDD is doing good.. i just solved the DMG thing. now onto the audio

10 minutes later... i havent gotten onboard audio to work... i think ive fried that part of my MOBO from back in the day....here... let me explain...

about 2 years ago i took my system apart to give it a good cleaning... got all the dust out... upgraded some fans, and upgraded the heatsink on my CPU...

anyway... when i went to plug everything back in i plugged the 1394 cord into where the HD audio for the front panel was supposed to go... i have not been able to get the onboard to work since... not even the front panel..

so... i did have an Audigy2 ZS that i was using alongside... i had my speakers plugged into it.. and used the onboard for headphones during gaming.

however.. i disconnected all this to install osx.... so i reinstalled it.. and im off and running with the KXaudiodriver

BUT... there are not controls in the output pane of sound preferences... i dont know what to do...

and were off and running in snow leopard...... YAY...

got it to work with patience..lots of it..

so... first things first... i already got video working with NVenabler 64 kext..

ethernet is already working by choosing Nforce LAN

im pretty sure im only on 10.6.0 how to update?
