I have been wanting to install Snow Leopard 10.6 on my PC for quite a while. The only problem that I cant get by is that my PC does not have a drive that will burn a DVD(i have the DMG image on my HDD). I have a 16gb external flash drive. I was hoping there would be a way to boot from the flash drive to install OS X but after hours on end searching the internet I have not found anything. I was thinking that there has to be a way to boot from ##### or boot123 to my flash drive but i haven't found a way.

THANX for your time. any help will be greatly appreciated! biggrin.gif

myHack Installer

You can use this just how to restore OS X to USB. Then you can instal different Chameleon or E/E kexts.. if you want, depend on your configuration ..

I do not have access to a mac, and ##### or boot123 dont have a capability to boot from a flash drive yet, thanx for the suggestion

The best way i think you could do it is, using iPortableSnow.

On windows, Download VMware and format and create a iPortableSnow USB using Disk Utility and then Boot from it.

Download the kexts or anything that you need for your machine.

Thats what i done anyway, Now i have a almost fully working Dell Vostro i5

Thanks for all the suggestions, i will try them as soon as possible and post the results:) thanks again

Yeah from reading your first post. It would be very easy for you to to get installed using a USB.

Search for iPortableSnow and follow the instructions in the PDF file.

Then download VMware and create the bootable USB from inside that. Then your good to go.

According to the PDF file that came with the software you need a mac to install iportable snow. I do not have access to a mac, plz help

Yeah in the post above, I did say install VMware.

*VMware* is a virtual machine, you can install an operating system on, use it just for formatting and restoring.

I knew what VMware is, I used Oracle Virtualbox. Wouldn't it work the same? All i get when i launch the DMG file is a command line that starts with a "SHELL>" and then i can type. So my main question here is will Virtualbox work? if it is working what do i type on the command line?

Well i dont know about VirtualBox, Never used it.

I had VMware and a proper Mac OS x system image made for VMware.

So i dont know? Maybe someone else on the forums will..

What ever happened to me using iPortable Snow?

All the methods i've seen for booting from a usb stick seem to require OSX which as you said you don't have, so you could Install VMWare and patch it to boot OSX and install it there first, then use that to create your bootable usb stick.

i used netbookinstaller to create my usb stick for my vostro v13 but i do have a mac.

So in essence you need OSX to run iPortable Snow, which you don't have, so install vmware (not sure which version is patchable) patch it, then install OSX under it, then run iPortable Snow and stuff
