I have mac installed to one drive and xp to the other, its been at least a year and a half since I have done anything on insanelymac so I'm a bit rusty. Can anyone recommend a new card thats good with my specs and with mac x86? if those dont work can anyone recommend new specs? Thanks!! mitch_de Posted May 19, 2011 Share Posted May 19, 2011 Yep, i also had an died 8800GTX (not GTS, which is much slower) - an real fast GPU. Bets most cases 4870 GPU, and the used drivers are very well done. But it was an Watt succer too So, its not easy to switch if you want same speed or one step up. In the past year the ATI OS X heros done a lot of work to get the ATI cards better t run as in the past - in the past Nvidia 8xxx, 9xxx were much much easier to get to run. I would also recommend ATI 5870 or ATI 5770 (much less WATTS, i think at least same speed than 8800GTX on games, much faster on OpenCL). Check and ask in the ATI thread for an most easy (Cameleon ATI injection without any major driver patching) card. If you dont need CUDA (some OS X apps use it also like Toast 11) then ATI is an good way. Acidic Posted May 22, 2011 Author Share Posted May 22, 2011 hey all, thanks for the help here. What kind of 5870 would you suggest? The visiontek or asus? Any suggestions on a relatively newer card. I know that manufacturers take a old card and slap a new name on it then sell it though. Thanks! what about the 5970?
