I am getting a new laptop, and I was looking at the Inspiron 15r, the second gen.

I need to know if everything will work.

CPU: http://www.dell.com/mc.ashx?id=Tech-Spec-F...ntType=rolloverIntel Core i3 2310M (2.1GHz/3MB cache)

GPU: Integrated 1664MB Intel® HD 3000

And the webcam is just described as

  • Integrated 1.0 mega pixel widescreen HD Webcam

Will all of that work, including qe/ci?

Or at least, does the i3 work?

And will integrated hd 3000 graphics work?

Thanks.

I just purchased the Core i7 15R. Everything seems to work on this model, except wireless (Centrino Wireless-n 1030). I believe the Atheros wireless is supported, but these are rare these days, and the only wireless cards installed in new Dells are Dell branded or Centrino W-n). There is a driver for Wireless 1702 (Dell???) (but only for Lion).

You will be fine if you find a USB nano-sized N adaptor, that is supported.

I am hoping the card is replaceable, and is probably half-sized. There are other how-tos/guides that talk of replacement Airport Extreme compatible card swaps. I am yet to upgrade to 8011-N, and am currently running G, with an old inherited wireless modem/router. That will be fixed once I have OSX and wireless running on the 15R.

To answer your other questions, if you install as Macbook 8,3 during install, and use a device properties hex string (found elsewhere on this forum), then you will get full HD Graphics 3000 suppport (including QI/CE). There is also a Lion pack (for 10.7.2) which has patched drivers for everything, including the webcam.

Find it here (with instructions in the comments) -> http://www.osx86.net/view/1825-dell_inspiron_15r_n5110_lion_10.7.2_pack.html

Best of luck. reply here if you have success.

PS. Centrino Wireless-n is working in Kernel 3.0.x Linux now (including Debian) with non-free firmwares already available in depositories. It is only a matter of time until someone writes working drivers for Snow Leopard/Lion/Mountain Lion.
