PJ_Mac
Hello all, I am starting a Power Mac G5 hackintosh. I ordered the case on eBay (only $62 for those interested). It has not arrived but when it does pictures will be included, as well as work to date. Here is the current hardware I'm planning on using Intel® Core™ i5-2500 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor ($209.99) GIGABYTE GA-H67MA-USB3-B3 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel® Motherboard ($109.99) **Special deal on Newegg for combining those only $299.99 total** On the fence as for video cards as I don't know much about picking them so if anyone could help me with a compatible one that would be fantastic! I really want good graphics as I am going to be gaming a lot. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/257053-power-mac-g5-mod-hardware/ Share on other sites
martin953
Mind if I ask, what's the status of this project? I'm building hakint0sh with the same mobo and find out that currently builtin ehternet port is not working under os x. As of your video card question IMHO right now HD6850 or HD6870 are weapons of choice. Noé
Hello PJ_Mac! I think our setup is cool as far as here. The reason why I found this topic is because I bought a dead Powermac G5 a while ago (paid CHF 36 if you're interested...) I'm now looking for hardware too, but I'm undecided of the motherboard whether I should take mATX or ATX. mATX allows me to use the Apple PCI expansion slots (look nice) but ATX is easier to find, and probably cheaper too (not sure though). Graphics cards, well I can't help you there, sorry. Greetings from Switzerland!
