scott7saunders
Hi everyone, I apologise if this has already been asked but I am struggling with making much sense of things. Basically I have just brought a new Samsung RV511 laptop with an i5 core. Its running windows 7 which is great however its a mac that I wanted just the only stumbling rock was that I could not afford one so I was hoping that this machine would be able to duel boot between windows 7 and a version of OSX. Is this possible and if so is there a particular ISO image that should be used - I am guessing that I need to make sure that the recover partition that is ready on the laptop is not deleted.. well - thats is really, can anyone give me some guidance please? Many Thanks Scott Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/256786-where-to-start/ Share on other sites

Many Thanks Scott You have to post your chipset details or else its anyone's guess. Dual booting should not be a problem. The problem is weather or not your video chipset is supported. If you can make that work you should have no problem using Chameleon bootloader to multiboot your system but your going to have to first try to install OSX first before windows. And if your really lucky just maybe you could have sleep working but thats a shot in the dark... First thing post your chipset details. Run Everest or something like that to see whats the story. Then get your hands on ##### CD disk image and a copy of Snow Leopard (costs $30). Then read a few of the guides that matches your particular hardware config.. Good luck. Many Thanks Scott First of all laptops are tricky. They can have a lot of unsupported hardware. If your intention was to make a Hackintosh custom building a desktop is the best way to go. There are databases on the internet which list compatible hardware for different versions of OS X. If you can't return you laptop or you just need a laptop then try the nawcom ModCD. I explain how I did it for my desktop HERE. As far as preserving your recovery partition you will probably have to boot from a Windows 7 Install DVD and do some command prompt editing. Read my dual boot guide HERE. Make sure you DON'T erase the entire disk if you want to preserve your recovery partition. Here is how you delete one partition. I personally installed Windows 7 first because I wanted Chameleon to overwrite my MBR. I don't see the point of installing two boot loaders. I just let Chameleon handle SL and Windows 7. Once you get OS X SL installed you are going to have to know what a kext and a DSDT is. There are two good threads you should check out. One is about Kext Wizard and one is about DSDT auto patcher. You're going to have to do a lot of reading. This project will be time consuming. We all went through it. Do your reading first. Then try out some trial and error stuff on a non-production machine. And when all else fails post here. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/256786-where-to-start/#findComment-1681817 Share on other sites
