mckvakk
I've tried burning a dvd without the Xcode tools, that gave me just a blue background after the progress wheel during install. I don't have any DL DVDs to try.. I've tried putting leopard install on an external hard drive, that didn't work.. Is there any way to install 10.5 on my ibook G4? I got it to install on a external HDD connected to my intel mini, but i want it to run on my ibook without any external drives connected
nigelelliott394
If you wish to dual boot look at option 1. If not...skip to option 2 where i'm assuming you want to archive and install or clean install. Option 1. Back up all (important) data to your external hard drive, Leave room for a partition about 5gb in size. Restore your leopard dmg to that partition .(make sure that the 'start up disk' panel recognises the partition as the Mac OS X install dvd before you start formatting) boot to your tiger install DVD and run disk utility, partition your (internal) hard drive in to 2 partitions, name one tiger and one leopard...or just name them w/e you want. Now reboot with your external plugged in holding down the option (alt) key..choose to boot to the leopard dvd partition. follow the instructions on the installer and choose to do a new install on your leopard partition. Option 2. Create a 5gb partition on your external drive, restore the mac os x leopard image to the partition. make sure system preferences recognises the mac os x install dvd on w/e partition, if so, choose to boot to it. follow the installer and choose to either archive and install or do a clean install. Leopard has been pretty stable so far, infact, more stable than tiger. Tiger randomly took a kernel panic last night on me just running itunes...first time it's ever happened me in tiger, leopard has ran just fine for me, a few little bugs here and there but they are tolerable imo. hopefully i'll be able to upgrade with w/e happens to leak (new builds). need any more help just ask
mckvakk
i'll try that when i have the time:) Any reason why the dvd won't work? It sounds like the machine is readin an awful lot from it during the apple logo with the spinning wheel. before it changes to a blue background with no text, and the reading from the disc stops

Le Chuck
Installed Leopard today on a G4 iBook (latest model). Burned the DMG to a DL DVD and it worked without a hitch.
