Jared Kipe
Like many people, I was very disappointed when there was no "medium" mac released at the WWDC. It seems that Apple is doing everything they can to push iMacs, and that means no Conroe Cube at this time. Now it just turns out a OSx86 PC I built for my friend broke, and he decided to give up on it. So I'm in the position to replace my dual 1.8GHz G5 PM with a new conroe system, but I'm having some problems deciding on hardware. 1st, Motherboard- I probably want to use a 6300 series C2D, so it will need to run on that. If at all possible, I'd like to have working firewire, audio, and network. Though I understand that there is a cheap network PCIE card that will work for that. 2nd, Video- I'm coming from a R 9800 pro, so I'm not at all sure that a GMA950 is going to be quite up to snuff. My main concern is Aperture speed. So I could go with an X1600 (or better if cheap enough) if there is a particular type that works well. Also, is it possible to install OSX with one of these cards then make the kext adjustments later? Oh and I NEED DVI output. Thats pretty much it, I'll be using a superdrive and a SATA HDD I already have. If at all possible could you provide newegg links to products if you find them, I went looking for like an Asus ConroeXfire or something and there were a lot of different kinds on newegg. Thank you very much for any advice. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25178-help-with-components-for-a-core2duo-mac/ Share on other sites
