Spwhyke
im running: Dell Studio 1747 with.... Dell Inc. - 0J509P (PM55) intel core i7 720QM socket 989 rPGA 4096mb DDR3 ATi HD 560v (Bios Dell inc A13) im using ##### to install my Retail copy of Snow Leopard 10.6.3 (dual with windows 7 64bit) i have an unformatted partition of 100gb on which im trying to install osX. once booting osX through i boot it starts to load fine until after about 4/5mins it stops with the following: ACPI table not found: DSDT.aml no DSDT found, using 0 as UID value. Using PCI-root-UID: 0 ATI card POSTed, reading VBIOS from legacy space after which is stops and does nothing ive left it for several hours and still is frozen. I have tried booting in -x, -v, -f, and all of them together! and there is always the same problem it pauses on these lines of information. Has anybody else encountered/overcome this problem or know how too? i appreciate Dells bios is limited and there is no option for me to check/ensure ACPI is set to [s3(str)] im not sure if this is the cause of the problem or how to get around it. Any help appreciated thanks! Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/249901-osx-1063-instalation-problem-dell-studio-1747/ Share on other sites

trozminster
Have you tried adding the bootflag PCIRootUID=1? Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/249901-osx-1063-instalation-problem-dell-studio-1747/#findComment-1669647 Share on other sites
almuras
Use ##### Legacy. If it still freezes use -x flag. If still freezes use cpus=1 busratio=20. After install delete ATI video kexts or it will freeze again. At first reboot use -x flag again. You will have to delete ATI kexts after each combo update, before rebooting. If you can use GUID formatted separate hard drive to install retail disk. I also advise to have another small partition and install Kalyway, that will give you an easy access to snow leopard partition to manipulate with boot files and kexts. mulcyber
If you can use GUID formatted separate hard drive to install retail disk. I also advise to have another small partition and install Kalyway, that will give you an easy access to snow leopard partition to manipulate with boot files and kexts. Having another way to access your primary SL partition can be very useful. You can use a 16gb usb stick for this. Format it to GUID, then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone Everything from your primary SL install (before it gets bloated) to the usb stick. Then you can boot the clone independently with ##### (set cds to boot first) and plug in the usb stick before booting. If you have your Chameleon files in the EFI partition, it's not likely to get damaged if your primary SL install breaks down. So you can choose F12 to boot a drive at startup, choose the drive where the primary SL is installed and Chameleon will offer to boot your backup SL usb drive. That avoids partitioning for your rescue OS X on the same drive which may get damaged and you have a real backup. Never tried this method, but I guess it is another good option to access SL partition.
