Cvrcmember
Hey I'm wondering if anyone can help me.. I have a Gateway 700GR with a Pentium 4 CPU, 2 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT. I'm running iAtkos S3 10.6.3 and everything works except ethernet and audio (that's not my problem though) I am about to update to 10.6.6 via the Combo Update and I am wondering what I need to do to not get a kernel panic after updating. I have read all over the internet that I need to delete the SleepEnabler.kext and that's it. I am going to use ##### after the update, but it doesn't have any options to install a modded kernel for my Pentium 4. I am wondering what I need to do in order to update safely and install a modded kernel after the update.. Any help is appreciated! Also, I am dual booting with Windows 7 and I really don't want to install the bootloader and all that {censored} again if this update ends badly. lol Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/248963-quick-question-regarding-1066-upgrade-pentium-4/ Share on other sites

I suggest you to use the nawcom modded legacy_kernel for 10.6.6 (I'm using it now on a 10.6.0 test install) And to avoid update bad surprises I keep 6GB of the main HD with a fresh install patched the same an the every-day-use-installation that i can use to test if the updates are good or bad for my specific config For ##### problems you better ask to who made it directly... Okay thank you, that kernel worked like a charm! I am now running 10.6.6 and I got my Marvell Yukon Ethernet to work by patching the plist (adding DEV and VEN to the plist), and the last thing is trying to get the freakin AUDIO to work! In windows 7 I checked my DEV and VEN and I know the codec... It is the Realtek ALC860, and I have tried installing VoodooHDA but I get a kernel panic... I have tried VoodooHDA and a few other kexts and I absolutely cannot get this to work... Everything else works! If anyone knows what I can do to get this audio to work, please help me out! You have to remove AppleHDA if you use VoodooHDA Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/248963-quick-question-regarding-1066-upgrade-pentium-4/#findComment-1644276 Share on other sites
Cvrcmember
You have to remove AppleHDA if you use VoodooHDA I did though, thats the thing... Is it only for 64 bit or something? Can my cpu run it? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/248963-quick-question-regarding-1066-upgrade-pentium-4/#findComment-1644277 Share on other sites
PGHammer
I did though, thats the thing... Is it only for 64 bit or something? Can my cpu run it? There are 64-bit (albeit single-core) P4s (the earliest Prescott P4s in LGA775 support HT, but are single-core - my mom has one in a refurb running 7 Ultimate x64); the real question is more are their any other anchors among the patched kexts and drivers (in my case, I have issues with VoodooHDA and 10.6.6; my alternative, the kX Project 1.30 OS X driver, is 32-bit-only and is like a sea-anchor in a pure arch=x86_64 boot setup). My CPU (Celeron DC E1200) can run x64 just fine (in fact, it's running the vanilla kernel); it's just that I have a 32-bit Nimitz-class sea-anchor attached.
