You might need to try a few different bootdisks to get it to work,

E.g. on my rig I need nawcom disk to boot into the SL DVD then ##### to get to the desktop once installed, nawcom wont do it for me once SL is installed.

Normally, the "Still waiting for root device" method means AHCI is not set correctly. I would google for similar systems and see if others had the same problem as you. What laptop do you have? Sometimes you need boot options with Chameleon so google to see what options others have tried with your laptop model.

Good luck!

One reason for this error message is if the South Bridge chip, Intel Ibex Peak-M HM55, has the wrong kext (driver). The retail disk might not have the right kext. So try nawcom as these other boot disks sometimes contain kexts that the retail disk doesn't. Another one you could try is http://www.sendspace.com/file/ssj81b which is Hackboot and I think this disk is supported by MaLd0n, an expert on the insanelymac forum. I hadn't heard that tip about re-inserting the ##### disk later after nawcom, seems easy to try if there is a problem.
