I had the same issue, sounded like the system was still running but nothing was showing on the screen. Solved the problem by simply using the DVI output from my graphics card rather than the vga. Hope this solves the problem for you.

vshk
I follow the instruction and all steps passed. However, there is no resolution selection and the Graphics/Display section in System Profiler shows that the graphic card cannot be recognized. (The display still works but no QE/CI) My Card is HD5500 with device ID 0x68da1002. Any help? Thanks!

rubenmr
This is my guide to enable QE on my XFX ATI HD5450 with AMD. 1- Download & burn EmpireEFI 1085 AMD Download 2- Install 10.6 Snow Leopard Retail DVD with Empire EFI CD 3- Reboot with Empire EFI CD, copy boot file from Empire CD and copy mach_kernel.test7 on root. Create \Extra\ & copy com.apple.Boot.plist Create \Extra\Extensions and copy all kexts located on Empire EFI CD\Extra\Preboot.dmg, if you need other kexts copy it too. 4- Download All_in_one.zip. Install ATI HD Injector, copy rom to \extra and install kexts with kexthelper. 5- Reboot and test if OSX loads correctly. Now run ComboUpdate 10.6.6. Install 10.6.4 USB (with ##### or here) 6- Reboot and ATI may work correctly with QE, resolutions.... I have this to enable my ati card on AMD. This is my com.apple.Boot.plist <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel.test7</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>5</string> <key>GUI</key> <string>No</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>arch=i386 boot-uuid="PASTE YOUR HDD UUID" rd=*uuid</string> <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1024x768x32</string> </dict> </plist>

Jerry_MK2
When I want to try different Ati Framebuffers, can I boot typing AtiFb=.... at boot screen (like we do with verbose mode -v) or must I edit everytime the com.apple.boot.plist with the new AtiFb parameter and type no parameter at boot screen?
