dasuberes
once i get OSX running on my PC, can i proceed to install mac-specific hardware and just get the drivers for them, or does that require modifying as well? specifically, im looking to get the Apple ATI Radeon 5770 graphics card, should it just be plug and play? fojerhar
I think all the apple supported hardwares will work in the hack also, in this reason I bought the same graphics card wich the macpros came out. Gringo Vermelho
You can't use Apple video cards in a PC unless you flash the ROM. Which is a retarded thing to do, because by then it will just be a PC video card. *I learned something today. USB/Firewire/Bluetooth peripherals and (I guess) PCI-E expansion cards that don't use an EFI ROM, will work fine. As long as your USB/Firewire/Bluetooth controller is working of course. dothacker
@ Gringo: So, they were assuming since we're running OSX on PC, that Apple parts will work? Gringo Vermelho
That's how I read it: im looking to get the Apple ATI Radeon 5770 graphics card, should it just be plug and play? Or did I misunderstand your question? Most Apple parts do work. Mice, keyboards, monitors, etc etc. Nothing that has an EFI ROM on it will work. fojerhar
Hi I just made a try before, bought an unsupported ati 4650, and took an nvidia 7300gts from an orig macpro, the factory video card, and worked well. Just an experience.... Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/243663-installing-apple-hardware/#findComment-1628736 Share on other sites
Gringo Vermelho
"7300 GTS" doesn't exist, you mean 7300 GT. I'm surprised that it's working. I've been reading some more and it appears - at least according to this: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=877441 - that Mac video cards should work fine in a PC because their ROMs are both BIOS and EFI based. It's the other way (PC card in a Mac) that doesn't work. PC video cards have a BIOS based-only ROM. Another problem with using a Mac video card in a PC would be the power connectors, they are different and you'd need an adapter to power the card. The 7300 GT doesn't use external power though.
