Using release 1 patch on Markler-tiger image. Fresh install. So I was pretty worried when all of my MD5 sums kept coming up correct on the first try. Thought I had a dupe on my hands for sure. Just ripped it all to DVD, did a fresh install on my new comptuer (Intel 915GAGN mobo with intel lan and intel gma 900, Socket 775 P4 2.66 SSE3, 1 gig Dual channel ram at 400mhz, Pioneer Superdrive, seagate 80 gig sata, all in a BEAUTIFUL G5 case!!! Apple Pro key and mouse) and at first it booted up the dvd, I went into the disk util and started partitioning the drive (for a dual boot more on that later) and about halfway through, it lost communication with the disk management utility. When I tried to quit the disk util, it said "your drive may not function correctly if you quit now" I had to leave for work at that point. I came back to it today, tried again. And well, HERE I AM!!! OSX FLIES on this thing. I have an iBoook 800mhz G3 and this thing just kills it! Sound works. Video works. Quartz Extreme works. Lan works. Haven't tried burning disks yet. The one thing bothering me was that I didn't have a way to import all my stuff from the iBook on account of no firewire. I went to the store and bought an Adaptec Firewire/usb2.0 card. Just tossed it in. Fired it up. BOOM> Firewire. I love it!!!!

Now for the questions.....

(As always, if these have been answered in the forums before, I apologise.)

Has anyone upgraded to iTunes 5.0?

Do ANY of the software updates work?

Thanks all.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH BENDER AND BROADBAND!!!!

If your current version of Itunes works, then v5 will work since it is a PPC app. I would not update anything else though

curiosity killed the...

I tried a software update in an idle moment and promptly had to reinstall image release 1, I would stay well away from that!

Please keep us informed of what applications that you port from one to the other, works.

G'luck

Just an update. Have now dual booted with XP Home. After some scary moments of not being able to boot into OSX again (after having followed the release 1 instructions to the letter) I got back in. On a whim, tried my bluetooth dongle (usb) that I got with my Apple bluetooth mouse. They both work like a charm in OSX. No workey in XP :) hence the extra mouse on the desktop..... Now for the pics of my baby....

Great! Just love to read the stories like yours! :)

To all whom it may concern: DO NOT install QuickTime 7.0.1 or 7.0.2 - you will not boot up after. Only reinstalling (at least with "Archive and install" option) will help...

Other updates work on my system. It is very much close to the subj author's one exept I do not own the native G5 case and my mobo is Intel P915GUX. :D

iTunes 5 works fine. Stuffit Deluxe 10 works too. What else? Yep, just recalled one important thing - after trying some font managers I discovered, that their behaviour may be quite unpredictable.. For instance a brand new on the market (it's free yet though) Linotype FontExplorer (http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorerX) after install makes ATSServer overload processor.. So I continue to use my Fonts folder in my user's account Library folder.

And just in case somebody wants to do a procedure of making his system dual-boot in a very easy way - use free "xfdisk" for bootmanagering. It installs its own bootloader (I have tried it on WinXP and x86 - 2 partitions on my HD) and correctly assigns active partitions and so on.

Hint: the first partition you name in it's bootloader will be the first in start-up list. :)

P.S. I've added the audio kext from my Extensions folder for those who may need it.
