Lazlow006
So as I stated in the title I began this project during this past summer. I put together a hell of a PC and had plans to load it with both Mac OS and Windows OS. So I'd get the best of both operating systems. I posted once before with the specs and was told that everything would work fine without drivers except my video card. However the reply said that with the new Mac OS X Update it would support my video card. And it is because of that I haven't tried to load Mac OS on my computer. I couldn't find my original post so I decided to put another post on here. Below are the specs of my computer Case = Antec 1200 Motherboard = ASUS Rampage III Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard RAM = Corsair Dominator 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Hard Drives = Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000HLFS 300GB 10000 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5 (Four of these hard drives, two for Windows and two for Macintosh, raided.) Western Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB (A shared HD for the operating systems with all my music/pictures/media) Video Card = EVGA GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Operating System = Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Power Supply = CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply Disc Drive = HP BD Combo SATA Model BD240I-h01 LightScribe Support Extras = Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 Media Center Kit Dual TV Tuner Alright hopefully this isn't too much, I realize that having a shared hard drive between the two operating systems may not be possible but I thought it was worth a try. So again I ask the question of will any of the equipment need drivers? And should everything work if I follow a guide on how to install the Mac OS on my PC? Also, does anyone have any recommendations when it comes to following a guide? I've done a fair amount of research and found a number of different guides, I'm never quite sure which one to follow so any help would be great. Thanks again, Thomas Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/239812-my-attempt-at-a-hackintosh/ Share on other sites
Hagar
I can find no trace of your previous post, but if it was similar to this one I would not be surprised if it was removed. Your account has only 1 post on it , if you made your previous post under another account and re-registered then this is against the rules (which I strongly advise you to read, along with the posting guidelines). Please note that the answer to your questions is found by reading this site, not by asking and expecting it all to fall into your lap. Far better than following a "join the dots" guide is to read up on the techniques and specifics of your hardware so that you understand what you're doing and can modify and adjust according to your needs. If this seems like too much effort, then os x on PC is not for you. Lazlow006
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you guys. I'm fully aware this isn't an easy process but I'm willing to do it. Also you wont find my post on this website as it was posted on a different forum. However for the life of me I couldn't remember the name of the site. Anyways the question still stands how will the compatibility of the parts work? Will I need drivers for any of the above listed parts? Also what do you guys think would be the best way to go about the hackintosh process? I've read a number of different ways ranging from using ##### and a simple Snow Leopard installing disk to using a program called Chameleon. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Gringo Vermelho
It will never work. You forgot to buy a CPU. /EDIT GTX 460 is way better value for money than the 470. Go read some reviews of the GTX 460. You need to look at the LAN and Sound hardware on the motherboard, find out if there's support for it. If not, and you're really in love with that board, you can still buy compatible expansion cards or USB devices. A lot of people like the Griffin iMic for sound. OS X cannot be installed on a PC BIOS hardware RAID (well, it's possible that there is some insane hack recipe for it out there somewhere, dunno. Before installing, you can use Apple Disk Utility to set up a software RAID array. You can still use the other two HDDs in hardware RAID for Windows. "A shared HD for both systems" is a bit of a pickle. OS X cannot write to NTFS by default, and if you enable NTFS write support it will be enabled for all your NTFS drives. I don't know what that will do to your hardware RAID! On the other hand, I don't know if the RAID'ed HDDs with Windows on them can even be seen by OS X. NTFS write support is supposedly flaky on OS X, do some research on this before deciding if it's worth the risk. I've seen stories about data loss and corrupted partition tables. The safest way to share data between OS X and Windows is to share a drive on your local network, then it doesn't matter what the filesystem is. The TV Tuner card will not work in OS X (get an USB TV Tuner instead). The rest is fine. Lazlow006
Sorry forgot the mention that part. CPU = Intel Core i7 960 3.2GHz Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/239812-my-attempt-at-a-hackintosh/#findComment-1620101 Share on other sites

Thanks again, Thomas Thomas, in general I wouldn't mess with the hauppage card when you're initially building your system. The simpler the hardware the easier it will be to configure your system. I'd look at the Tonymac and myHack websites to get things started.
