Ematic07
Installation was easy, used ##### and ##### (newest releases), I got my nvidia gtx460 working, my sound working, and my network working. I only seem to run into a problem after about 30 minutes of mac use. I'll be browsing the internet or trying to get used to the OS and... BOOM! KERNAL PANIC. Yeah, completely out of no where. The first time this happened a crash report opened up next time i restarted my system. This panic seems to happen when i'm running a lot of things on OSX, I thought it could be my memory. So i downloaded a program that tests your memory called Rember. It checked my memory and said everything is OK. So i'm not sure how to narrow this down, I searched up some posts about pinpointing the problem in a kernal panic log. But im not sure what my problem is. When i open up the console here are the messages right before the crash: 12/11/10 1:24:58 AM com.apple.WindowServer[81] Sat Dec 11 01:24:58 Emmanuel-B-iMac.local WindowServer[81] <Error>: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged. 12/11/10 1:36:09 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.suhelperd[204]) Exited with exit code: 2 Any Ideas? zicoos
Do you have more than 4GB ram? If you do - Do you have memory remapping enabled in the BIOS? That's just the first thing that occurred to me based on what you said in the description of the problem. Ematic07
thanks for the reply zicoos I couldnt find anything regarding "memory remapping" in my bios so I updated my bios to the most recent version, still couldnt find anything. I'm using a ASUS Sabertooth X58 MOBO. What option should i be looking for in BIOS? zicoos
Post your full hardware specs. But it sounds like your PSU could be too weak. Or the card is overheating for some reason? If the RAM and the MOBO are ok, let's assume they are (you even tested the RAM), the PSU is my next guess as you said it crashes under heavy load. Try running OpenGL tests or any other graphics test to see if it results in a crash while doing. Also, check your hardware monitor, install a widget maybe that monitors your system area temperatures. Forgot to even ask, does any of this happen in Windows 7? Edit: Post the PSU namely, as I've seen the case you purchased doesn't come with one, right? Also, try pulling out 2GB of RAM to do some testing for a day or two? Until I get some new ideas. CPU overheating could be one more problem, however I need info on how the system behaves under Win7. Ematic07
Cooler Master HAF 942 Case ASUS Sabertooth X58 MOBO Intel i7 930 CPU ANTEC 750W Power Supply Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 6GB Patriot Memory 1TB HDD (Windows 7) 1TB HDD (Hackintosh) 250GB HDD Internal 1TB External 750GB HDD External Do you think I should up my voltages in bios? Or do i just have too many hdd lol I thought 750w would be enough but i also have a lot of fans. So now i'm not so sure. And no its never happened to me in windows 7, ive ran games like fallout new vegas and mafia II on win7. Does that mean mac takes more power? Hackintosh doesnt freeze when its just sitting there, i left it on for about 10 hours and it didnt freeze when i woke up, it just seems to freeze after using it for about 30 minutes or so. Also, this might have nothing to do with anything, but only in hackintosh do i hear my dvd drive spin every now and then, theres no cd inside either. It spins every 20 mins or so. Thanks for all your help. I really wanna get this fixed! =( Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/239687-kernal-panic-after-installation/#findComment-1601390 Share on other sites
zicoos
If it runs well in Windows7, I am pretty sure it probably is something else then. 750W is quite nice, as you don't have cards in SLI, and well, hard drives usually consume roughly up to a dozen Watts of power (measured by a multimeter). Also, another thing that comes to my mind as I was writing the text above, is that the drive you are using for the OS X could be starting to let you down... or... going to a better place do a thorough surface test of the drive with OS X? Ematic07
I just bought the drive from newegg, 1TB Seagate barracuda. Sorry for being a noob but how do i test out the hdd in osx? I'm also going to take out 2gb and test it for a couple days. Any idea on memory mapping for an asus mobo? zicoos
One of the easiest things would be downloading the Ultimate Boot CD (that's how it's called). It's a compilation of various tools for diagnostics and recovery etc. Do the Drive Fitness Test or similar ones you find on the UBCD. Prior to doing that, boot into single user mode with -s and type /sbin/fsck -fy to check your filesystem has no errors. Make sure nothing is overclocked (I believe it's not, you haven't mentioned it). Try swapping the hard drive channels of Win7 drive and OS X drive on the mainboard, in case the surface scan says everything is fine. Do you have these graphics drivers? Nividia drivers geforce 4xx+580 (tweaked by tony) @ Kexts.com? Ematic07
Tried both UBCD and the single user code to check the hdd. Everything checked out. Nothing is overclocked and I do have the latest nvidia drivers. Funny thing is I havent had the panic in a few days. I even left my pc on for 2 days while running a few programs and no panic at all. I think updating my BIOS to the latest version probably cleared the panic? Or at least fixed part of it, because i still feel like my hackintosh is not rock solid yet. The only problem im having now is getting rid of the audio buzzing sound coming from my firewire port (Im using a firewire soundcard for my music studio) So im trying to look that up not sure if you know anything about getting the firewire to work flawless. I hear audio but theres this loud high pitch sound coming from the speakers. I'm going to run a couple more tests later on today, you know just to try to overload mac and take it to its limit to see if i get a panic. Thanks so much for your help zicoos! If i get a panic tonight or tomorrow ill just repost to this topic with new info. Crossing my fingers now... zicoos
No problem, I hope you don't need to post another panic screenie! If you do, I'll be happy to try and help again. Good luck mate! Also, the bios update possibly solved the problem, yes. Maybe a fix in it, or a stability issue that was addressed in the new version has done the job, you never know unless if you REALLY know the source of your problem and I don't think we really nailed it here heh. Ematic07
It's back... =( But i think i might of narrowed it down just a little bit... I got the panic screen 3 times today and every time i got the panic i was using safari and only safari. Could this be some sort of network kext? Whenever I check my console theres no logs directly before the panic... it seems that its not saving any info leaving me clueless as to what caused the panic. Any ideas?
