coolguy2008
Is it legal to download a Mac torrent file and install it to a PC if you never bought a Mac? If not, then why does Apple allow this distribution to go on? If so, then why doesn't Apple sell their software to be easily installable like Microsoft, (but I'm guessing the answer to this one would be because the downloaded software is too difficult to install for most people, so most people are still more likely to buy Apple hardware?). sgtkwol
It is illegal to download copywritten stuff off of the Internet. Companies do try to stop it from happening, but it is so massive that it is not that easy to stop. The upgrade disk costs $30 and made my install easy, so it was well worth it, and now I own it, even if Apple says that I can't license it. You just a) can't resell it and 2 lets say you make a hit indie film on your hackintosh or hit song and they find out well they can reap your profits in court and take away your hackintosh. apple really doesn't care for several reasons. one being lets say you build a hackintosh you are basically testing hardware for free on your own buck. now lets say you illegally download Logic Studio or Final Cut Pro... and as long as you aren't making hits you are testing the software on other hardware showing them how stable it is. 2 ways they can find out about how stable the software is running on a hackintosh is via updating the software they have a clear connection into the mac or by just simply having a team that follows what people post on any hackintosh board, the second one is the most likely and accurate way for them to pick up info on hackintosh's. XLR
Is it legal to download a Mac torrent file and install it to a PC if you never bought a Mac? No, and it's also illegal to download it and install on a Mac. If you want legit software, you have to buy it.
Hangten
Depending on the law in that country its either enforced or not. In the USA its illegal and cease and assist will surely come your way if you try sell or disturb certain licensed software. Most company's have to take it court. If you can fight with lawyers and litigation and have the other guy go broke then well maybe you might have a chance. This is why we vote to elect officials that can govern humans so they don't hurt one another. Although personally in my opinion a lobbyist will do a great job of adding more laws to the already overly saturated governing entities to try to keep humans civil. If you buy it (USA) make a trillion copies for your own use its ok. Apple has billions, so good luck with that battle.

Sorry, but this is complete nonsense. First of all, as long as you purchase the software, you are not breaking any criminal laws. If you install it to non-apple hardware, you are violating the EULA - a matter for civil court, not criminal court. Civil suits having to do with license violations are exceedingly difficult to win. As long as there are no monetary damages caused by the individual, the judge is likely to throw the case out of their court. It has nothing to do with making hits, or movies, or anything else. Now... I don't doubt that Apple has their eye on this forum (and many others.) But this is a can of worms they don't really want to open. As it stands, the courts have been very lenient on users don't whatever they want with hardware or software they rightfully own. Case in point, the Jailbreaking debacle. Apple is weary of pushing the issue in court as they may end up with a similar outcome; one where the courts make exceptions to existing laws (like their fabled DMCA) to allow fair use on behalf of the customer. Their worst case scenario has already happened once, they probably don't want to push their luck again.
