Hello everybody

I would like to buy a 10' netbook especially to backup and read my own HD video (from A CANON 5D) when I travel and I found this model from ASUS :

http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=xwkrcQgAVavjUyAl

I live in Europe but it is the same model in USA. Unfortunatly it is a very new product and I would like to know if anyone there tried to install SL in this model ?

Thank you by advance for your answer.

Hey guys,

I wanted to let you all know that I am about to begin my journey of hackintoshing the Eee PC 1015pn. Ive had the computer for only a few weeks and I am still waiting on my install disk. My preliminary research shows that if you use SL 10.6.1, theres a good chance you'll succeed as it was the last edition to fully support the Intel Atom Processor. I have also found a thread that has kernel patches for Intel Atom Support in SL. As for the NVidia Ion graphics and the wireless, my research continues.

As a side note, I upgraded the amount of ram to 2gb and the hard drive Im using is the Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid Solid State 500gb drive. (Changing the drive was real fun :D ). Ill keep you all posted!

How can you get QE/CI worked? People in another thread still keep talking about how to get QE/CI with ION2.

ASUS 1015PN GUIDE FOR Snow Leopard 10.6.6 OS X for Dual Boot (Win7 & OSX):

Tools:

External USB DVD-RW Drive

USB Drive of 2GB

10.6.6i DVD

Kext Helper b7

Kext Utility

Kexts from Kexts.com and VoodooLabs

1) Under Win7's Computer Management, Disk Storage prepare D: partition for OSX, keep partition as "Active" Primary Partition and format as FAT32 (Minimum size 32gb). If you can't format with this tool then use command line. Go to Windows/Start Icon and type cmd.exe [Ctrl+enter], and use:

format <drive letter>: /FS:FAT32

2) Place 10.6.6i DVD in external drive and Reboot, hit F2 to enter ASUS

boot options menu and set DVD-RW Drive as primary boot device

Hit F10 and save changes.

3) Chameleon with Load with four icons, highlight DVD icon and type: CPUS=1 -v

4) Once Mac OSX has loaded, prior to installation, select "Disk Utility", highlight OSX Drive and erase by using format MAC OS Extended (Journalized), once finished quit Disk Utility

5) Select Drive OSX for installation, hit Customize button and choose the following:

Bootloader -- Chameleon RC5

Patches -- Legacy Kernel

Boot Options: Graphics Enabler, USB Fix, EvOreboot, GMAX3100, ApplePS2controller, VoodooHDA2.62, Voodoo P-state, Voodoo Power, CardReader, TSCsync, Ntfs

http://img816.imageshack.us/img816/9152/dvd1066i.jpg

DO NOT choose Sleep Enabler, Network (wired or wireless) options. These will not work and can cause kernel panic

Go get coffee or tea as this will take 25 to 35 minutes to install.

6) After successful installation, Mac OSX installation asks for restart, hit button, hit F2 again to set HD as first boot priority under ASUS boot options, hit F10+enter to save.

7) Chameleon Bootloader menu will appear, highlight "OSX" icon and type again CPUS=1 -v -f

8) POST installation kexts to download and install with Kext Helper from Kexts.com

AtheroL1cEthernet.kext (for ethernet jack)

AsusHotkeys.kext (from 1201N forum)

Run Kext Utility afterwards to repair permissions and to delete caches (Extensions.mkext)

If Kext Utiliy crashes, use Disk Utility to repair permissions.

9) Edit com.apple.Boot.plist (found in /Extra/ folder), put this string under Kernel Flags

<string>arch=i386</string>

10) shutdown, turn-on 1015pn, highlight OSX icon under Chameleon bootloader and type again:

-v -f

Fire up the BBQ and grab a six pack, you're done.

Please Note: Broadcom (BCM94313hmgb) wifi pci card is not recognized (PCI ID 4727) by MAC OS X SL. Although I patched both info.plist in AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext and AppleAirPortBrcm43224.kext under /System/Library/Extensions/IO82111Family.kext (/Contents/Plugins/ in kext). Both Kexts load but AirPort does not scan for wifi, if anyone has a solution, please let me know.

Current Solution for wifi: replace PCI-e card with Macbook card from eBay or USB wifi N150 or N300 (D-Link DWA131 or Airlink101 AWLL6075)

Happy Hacking!!

Hey Guys, first thank you for your Tutorial.

But I've done it on another way. You don't need an external Drive, a USB stick would do it also.

First you need a bootable USB-Stick with 8GB.

You also need the NetbookInstaller, an unmodded Snow Leopard Retail DVD or Image.

1. To prepare the Stick, you need a MAC, too. But you should find a friend of you with a MAC.

Go to Programs-System Utility - Disk Utility (Sorry my MAC is in German, so it's not exactly the right description, but you can found this way to prepare a stick in many posts.)

Drop your Image of SL in Disk Manager and go Images-Check.

Than choose your Stick-partition-and choose 1 Partition. The Format must be MAC OS Extended (Journaled). Be sure that in options it's GUID.

After partitioning go to Restore and drop your SL-Image first and then your partition from the Stick. Click on Restore and grab some sweets, this should take about 20 minutes.

2. Start netbookinstaller and choose your new Install Stick and install on it. Be sure not to choose the System Partition of the real MAC!

3. Restart your 1015PN. Press ESC for BBS Popup. Now choose your Stick. The chameleon Boot-Loader should start.

Wait or Double-click Enter. Now the Installer should start.

The "best" thing is to erase the whole HDD and make new partitions.

Go under Disk Utility, choose your HDD-partition.

If you want to Dual boot with Windows, create 2 Partitions (or more). The first should be MAC Journaled and the Second FAT for your later Windows. After Creating the Partitions install OSX on the MAC partition and wait an hour or so.

You should use the modified Netbook-Installer from one in this Forum. Or you can use my package, it's the same Installer. The Installer is in a thread about the 1215N.

After Installing you should be able to boot with the Stick the Mac partition.

I would prefer first install the Combo Update to 10.6.7 and than do the rest.

After it you can run the Netbook-Installer from your new MACeee and now choose your MAC-HDD.

Than you can install some of the Kexts (it's not a complete package or "good" package, it's a package which gave me no kernel panics and all kexts are working). Easiest way to install them is to use the Kext-Helper.

After Restart you should a nearly good working MAC on your eee.

WLAN is not working (or complicated to get it working) so i get myself a mini usb wlan stick from EDIMAX, this one:

http://www.amazon.de/EDIMAX-EW-7811UN-Wire...2484&sr=8-1

Other sticks MAC compatible would do their job, too. This one is cheap and working for me.

I know that it's no good Tutorial, and my english is not the best, but you can ask if you have questions.

I hope it's ok if I post a link to the Files on my Dropbox:

http://db.tt/kJf4FzZ

What's not working for me is the Voodoo Power, it's for Energy Saving.

EDIT: I forgot the Windows installing Part. After you have a functional OSX, start to install Windows with Stick or External Drive. Install it on the Fat Partition. After successful installation, download and install EasyBCD. Add an Entry for OSX, choose not EFI, choose MBR.

You should have a dual-boot MACeee

Hello, I'm writing from a 1015PN on OS X 10.6.8 :P

What image have you restored to the usb-stick? I used 10.6.3 retail.

Have you formatted the usb-stick with guid and mac os extended (journaled)?

Have you used the netbookinstaller from his package? http://db.tt/kJf4FzZ

You can also try a bios reset and disable boot booster.

BTW: Has anyone working sound? Mine is not working :(

Hello, I've installed OS X around 30 times now and I think I've found a perfect way to install OS X Retail and Windows 7 as Dualboot. I'll post a detailed step-by-step guide tomorrow(or today) :P

Edit: I've bricked my netbook yesterday, so it takes longer to write the guide (failed BIOS-Update, never change a running system, I know -.-), but I'll write it when my netbook is fixed, if someone is interested in a guide :P

I am very interested in your guide! Are power-save and suspend/resume features fully working with OS X?

Hello, are you german?

I don't know what you exactly mean with power-save and suspend/resume (my english is not the best) and my 1015PN is bricked atm, so I can't test it, but if you close the netbook, it shuts down to power-save mode and if you open it again and press a key it's instantly on! I think this was the answer :(

btw, everything is working fine(qe/ci, webcam, usb, 2-finger scrolling, the fn shortkeys for sound), except the wifi and the sound. (I haven't tested hdmi and vga yet).

Do you have the 1015PN with Windows 7 Home Premium? I have some questions, cause there's a problem with dualboot and I don't know if it's a general problem or just with my netbook ;)

Thanks in advance for your answer ;)

Well, i used my old 10.6.0 retail DVD and i used this netbook installer...

The USB Stick (SanDisk Cruzer Blade 8GB) is formatted with GUID and Mac OSX Extended (Journaled)...

The crappy thing is, my 1015pn never worked like it should... When i close the netbook, it makes weird things... Like opening documents.. open 500 folders, but im using Ubuntu so it isn't Win ;) ...

Btw: I'm from germany and there's no {censored}in option with boot booster in the bios and the build in Bios flasher doesn't want my USB Stick.

And your Audio problem with the Realtek Alc269 should be solved with this VoodooHDA version:

Kexts.com

It's not for the 1015pn but the 1015pn uses the same Realtek Alc269 chip.

Edit: Or try this out:

Very interested in this netbook for a Hackintosh but its not FS in UK. Where are you guys buying yours? Please PM me as I dont want thread going off topic.

Looking forward to seeing this guide too!

I've bought mine here: http://www.redcoon.de/search/?searchVar=1015PN

I think it's ok to post it in the thread :P

Hmm, you should try the 10.6.3 retail dvd. I'm not sure, but I think that you should have at least 10.6.2 for an atom cpu... Look at your 2nd screenshot:

panic(cpu...):" should have 2 cores..."

If you have questions, send me a pm :)

The USB Stick (SanDisk Cruzer Blade 8GB) is formatted with GUID and Mac OSX Extended (Journaled)...

That's perfect

The crappy thing is, my 1015pn never worked like it should... When i close the netbook, it makes weird things... Like opening documents.. open 500 folders, but im using Ubuntu so it isn't Win :) ...

Uhh, I have the same problem :P When I watch movies on my 22" LCD and close the netbook, then it makes right-klicks and changes the loudness etc... Very annoying ;)

Btw: I'm from germany

me too :) but we should speak english, so we can help others too :P

and there's no option with boot booster in the bios and the build in Bios flasher doesn't want my USB Stick.

That's normal if you have deleted the boot booster partition. Why do you want to update the bios? You have to format your USB-Stick to FAT16, but please please don't update your netbook, I bricked my 1015PN 2 days ago with a bios-flash...

And your Audio problem with the Realtek Alc269 should be solved with this VoodooHDA version:

Oh thanks, I will try it when I've unbricked my netbook :)

Ok, now i swapped my 2GB hynix ram inside my netbook and installed windows 7 (Ultimate x64) + a mac theme. Runs wayyy better than ubuntu 32 bit. Tryin to install osx it with another usb stick tommorrow.

I think the problem is the 10.6.0 dvd :)

Mine did not arrive yet, but it is shipped with Home Premium. I can answer your questions next weekend.

By the way: Is there any possibility to prepare the boot-USB-media without an x86 Mac?

I'm getting a kernel panic when trying to restart after the initial install. Using Hazard's 10.6.6i, in the Customization options, I can't find ApplePS2controller or Voodoo P-state. Instead I selected the VoodooPS2controller. Also, I presume the Graphics Enabler option is in the Bootloader options, not the video card specific options? There was one for NVidia Graphics Enabler, but I did not select it. If I post a screen shot of the panic will you be able to help? thanks
