Nobody makes notebook chassis for system builders - your only option would be to pick up a spare from a laptop vendor but it would almost certainly require that you then fill it with exactly the same components as was in the original model the case is for. And it will probably cost more to build than just buying the original laptop. Not really worth the effort i'm afraid.

thats not strictly true, ouch - i remember seeing a 'build your own' laptop thing somewhere. i'll edit this post if i can find it.

EDIT: here's some linkage:

'Barebook' would appear to be the term of choice for these type of laptops.

Hmm hadn't seen those before - seems like you get to choose an optical drive, processor HD and memory - but since most of those are going to be pretty constrained by the logic board thats already fitted then i doubt theres that much advantage to it.

check dell website, choose the base notebook (usually based only on motherboard) then you choose cpu speed, ram, video, hard drive.

you can easelly build a notebook with almost the same hardware of a macbook pro that cost 3000$ for 1900$ ;)

i never checked if all the hardware could work on OS X as i don't have this laptop ^^
