I had 10.6.1 (running fine) and I installed the 10.6.4 combo updater. Now, this comes up after chameleon. I have added kexts on my flash drive which is where chameleon is installed.

Here's two screenshots of what comes up incase you can't read anything in the top photo.

AFAIK the latest fakesmc.kext doesn't work from /Extra/Extensions, it must be placed in /System/Library/Extensions.

I don't have a system folder on my flashdrive.

I don't have any kexts on my SL install, I'm just trying to use my flash drive (with chameleon) to boot up into SL and add kexts.

Then make sure you're using the last version of fakesmc.kext from netkas' blog because the newer version with temperature monitoring and all that stuff won't work from /Extra/Extensions.

And yes, I still have fakesmc in the extra folder.

Kernel extensions go in /Extra/Extensions, not in /Extra.

Sory, It's there in /Extra/Extensions.

I followed this

and added other kexts for my mobo.

I will now try different kexts. Hopefully something was wrong with my old kexts.

Just to make sure though, I don't need fakesmc on my install disk yet becuase I'm using my flash drive to boot, right?

I also have 2 partitions on my flash drive:

The first is for chameleon, and the second is for some kexts and drivers to install later.

This isn't the reason why I can't boot, correct?

Thanks.

Before it boots, hit a key

The type "-s" not quotes - for stand alone mode (will be near lower left of screen)

You should get to the prompt

Follow the example and mount your drive

mount -uw /

Now you should be able to navigate.

cd to/System/Library/Caches/

remove com.apple.kext.caches

rm -rf com.apple.kext.caches

then reboot

let the system rebuild the cache

I have this issue all the time when upgrading or using my port replicator on my X60

Thanks you so much. I'll see if that'll work.
