In the bar by the question, isn't it listing a file name that it intends to save it as?

Should be com.apple.Boot.plist

in the bar it says "File Name to Write:$t"

Go ahead and save it, then reopen it and see if it saved OK - use the nano... command to open.

its emptty!!

ahh its ok! now can i reboot?

You didn't use "nano" did you? I intended you to use the previous nano command:

sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

yess its ok now..i think its saved cos i reopened terminal and did he command. reboot?

Yes, sound can be a problem. Many people never get sound. Others find some patches,

ok..i can live with that..

its actually 10.4.6, but can i just simply update it to 10.4.7 via software update?

No, you need a patched version of any system software. Never update system software via Software Update. Things like Quicktime and Java and iTunes are OK to update.

ok...now what about battery? im running on a dell latitude notebook, but i dont see the battery meter on the right of the menu bar. if i unplug the ac cord will it shut off?
