Hello all,

Hope some of you can help me out. I've installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3 via a USB Drive. To get it working:

Insert USB Drive
Boot off ##### for Nvidia
Select USB Drive and install.
Install says it fails at the end (due to using non-vanilla kernel)
Use ##### to boot the installation.
Great! It works. Install an update to 10.6.4
Install ##### and a DSDT for my board (afaik anyway) and install Chameleon.

However while it works fine here, unless I use ##### to get it started, it just won't work. Also I need to type "busratio=20" and I still haven't enabled the other cores or HyperThreading yet.

I know this rig will do it as I've had it before (broke it though and hadn't backed it up, my fault I know).

I'm not sure what kexts are installed and what ones ##### is injecting to actually get it all working, could be just the CPU or could be the other drivers too. Help please?

Any tips will really be appreciated.

EDIT: Doh, I totally forgot to add my spec:

ASUS P6T (non-deluxe or SE, just P6T)

i7 920

6Gb RAM

EVGA GTX 285

Hi,

Unless you selected kexts during ##### installation it didn't install any other than chameleon and a 32bit boot kernel. You say that it doesn't work unless you use #####, okay, what is happening when you don't boot with #####? Do you get a KP? Or do you get stuck on boot up with 'waiting for root device' etc?

As for backing up you SL, I would suggest using Carbon Copy Cloner.

Hi,

If I just let it boot normally (still having to type busratio=20 or else it crashes and reboots) then it starts to load and with verbose mode on I get a chance to read some of the text which says "It is now safe to switch off your computer" and then it switches itself off.....That's different to what it was doing before.

Before it was loading to a point and then I could hear the HDD switching off. Usually when that happens if I leave it for a minute it'll come up with "Can not find root device", though on this install it may not be the same.

I don't remember what I poked and prodded last night to change that really. Something to do with the DSDT.aml file as I am now running on all cores. I used DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e.

You are right that I didn't spot the option for adding extra Kexts, but I have no idea which ones I want. I have downloaded a set of ones from someone here: http://tinyurl.com/32hqhhs but that is for 10.6.2, I don't know if that's OK or not. And there doesn't seem to be one for the SATA Ports.

Hope this is the info you need, thanks for the help

EDIT: I've just noticed also that I'm obviously running in 32-bit mode as I only have 4Gb of RAM on show, rather than my 6Gb. What changes need be made to get into 64-bit mode?

There is a 64bit kernel present in the newest version of ##### 2.2.0. You will need to edit your com.apple.boot.plist to reflect your boot choices. Google how to make chameleon boot in 64bit.

Also head over the Tonymacx86's blog and forum. I saw a couple folks with your motherboard and CPU combo. I'm not going to be of much help because I'm preoccupied with PS3 stuff. But good luck. Keep searching if you can't a reply from anyone.
