dawiinci
I have just had some crashes. I think they are related to the graphics card. I played a game in a WineBottle. Suddenly there were lots of polygons (mostly black and some bright colors) all over the screen. The mouse worked but i had to restart the system. This happened more than once but not in all games. Others I can play for hours. Then I rendered a movie in After Effects (which possibly uses OpenGL). After some minutes the screen began to flicker in horizontal lines of appr. 120 Pixels. So I had around 10 bars all getting dark and bright chaotically. I couldn't look long time at it. The mouse was responding but anything else including any app wasn't responding on my inputs. BUT the system did finish a job that I was running in the background. (I just let the system run until it should have been finished) It crashes without any log entry and no Kernel Panic. Any ideas or is this known as a bug of Apple or OSx86?
mitch_de
I dont think its an generell 8800GT(x) problem. For sure some bugs in the apps/games plus driver bugs in Apple drivers which can make (but not must) trouble. If you have system hangs often or some buggy screen in many OpenGL Apps/Tools then mostly reason is by OC gpu/vram clock and/or fan problems (overheating). OS X can even freeze if gpu/vram has such problems- even in 2D because OS X uses GPU also in 2D in OpenGL Mode(QuartzExtreme).
dawiinci
Well it's not OC but I will try to add an additional fan to the card. Although the case has already enough fans it might help to cool it down a bit more. You are probably right because Mac OS doesn't crash it just seems to not show correctly what it does. It's just weird that the mouse pointer still works. Thanks
