DrDrumm
Hello. We all want the new Mac Pro's with their 12 core craziness....uuuhh...Drooool...... Anyway, Most of us don't have the money. I want to build a hackintosh to be primarily used as a Pro Tools LE machine with this spec (More or less) : MB : Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 CPU : Intel i7 980x (6 Core) Memory : 3x2GB Corsair Dominator DHX Triple Channel Graphics : Sapphire HD 5770 Vapor-X 1GB GDDR5 DX11 2xDVI HDMI DP PCI-E Burner : LG DVD±RW GH24NS x24 Black SATA CPU Cooler : Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler Case : Antec P183 Mid Tower Black PSU : Corsair HX 650W Active PFC 12cm Fan Modular Will it be stable ? Will the graphics card work natively, considering that apple is using this gpu in their new mac pro's ? I'll appreciate any help and/or suggestion Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/227049-buiding-a-high-end-machine/ Share on other sites

rhalls
I think the video card will be the problem, and youll need some external high end audio interface (but i think you know that if you want to do pro audio). At the momentm, the video card is not supported i think. DrDrumm
Thank you for the reply. Yes, I do have an interface as I am already working on a 3 and half year old Mac Pro with dual dual core cpu's. It's a great machine, but not fast enough. Do you think once apple ship the new Mac Pro's, that DO come with this card, there will also be a compatible driver to work with ? Will the graphics card work natively, considering that apple is using this gpu in their new mac pro's ? I'll appreciate any help and/or suggestion :) I have an i7 Hackintosh, that I built a few months ago for audio and video. I use the GA-EX58-UD5 and an Intel 920 CPU and I can say that this 2.66 Ghz chip is way faster than any previous MAC that I paid $3200 for. I may try upgrading to the 980x in the future but for now I am happy. I run Final Cut Studio and Logic Studio. I used the EVGA Nvidia 9800 GTX+ 512 video card and it works great for video apps. I would highly suggest that if you don't want to fiddle around making this build work with Snow Leopard, download and check our Kakewalk. it is by far the easiest way to load MacOS X onto a PC. Make sure the components you select are supported by Kakewalk and you should be up and running in one afternoon. Finally, I am not sure if you understand this but Digi is rabid about not supporting the proper computer hardware. I used to support a friend's Mac computer with ProTools. If he even swapped out a processor in the computer, the tech's at Digi would not even talk to him. Just a point of information. DrDrumm
Thanx for the info I didn't know about kakewalk. I'll look it up. As for DIGI (Avid) support, I used to work with the 002 with my the setup in my sig. Worked flawlessly. As I am somewhat of a Pro Tools expert (If I may say so myself ) I'm not worried about that and I think that, for the most part, Gigabyte's boards have great firewire controllers. The best part, is that this is a project for the studio I'm working at, so I'm experimenting with someone else's money Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/227049-buiding-a-high-end-machine/#findComment-1522288 Share on other sites
