Troubleshooting Sleep Problems

Hello everyone. My laptop (Asus K40IE) is unable to wake from sleep. I would just have to hold the power button then restart. For now, I am using InsomniaX so that I can close the lid. May I know, how do I go about finding what is wrong with my device?

Some additional info:

DSDT

-no SBUS (no idea why)

-HPET patched

-my ISA bridge is nVidia 0aae (which is in the AppleLPC.kext's info.plist) but it still shows up as unknown device in LSPCI

Thank you in advance :(

This is the only thing that is not working now T.T. I have another problem, unable to Shutdown completely (Cpu halted but backlight and led light not off). I think this may be interrelated so please help.

thank you in advance!

Just keep working on it, you're headed in the right direction. Try to find a Mac laptop with similar hardware to yours (nvidia chipset..and Txxx Core 2 Duo CPU?), then find DSDT and ioreg dumps from it (check the ProjectOSX forums, there's a growing collection over there, also Linux bug report websites* sometimes have LSPCI, SMBIOS (DMI) and DSDT dumps attached to the bug reports) and compare it to your DSDT.

Install IORegistryExplorer (comes with Apple Xcode, which is on your install DVD) and compare device names in your DSDT to those of the similar Macbook, edit them to match. Try changing your model identifier and the other DMI info to match.

Check in IORegistryExplorer that your "system-type" is 02, which is the correct type for a laptop. Here's a screenshot from my "iMac9,1".

*https://bugs.launchpad.net has lots of juicy info on macbooks that you can use - use google like this:

site:https://bugs.launchpad.net MacBook4,1 DMI

-my ISA bridge is nVidia 0aae (which is in the AppleLPC.kext's info.plist) but it still shows up as unknown device in LSPCI

That's perfectly normal, it's just LSPCI that doesn't know about your ISA bridge.

It has nothing to do with the host OS and doesn't affect functionality in any way.

You can update the list of devices recognized by LSPCI by typing sudo update-pciids at the Terminal prompt.

If that doesn't work, you don't have a full port of LSPCI installed. You can get one that works with 64-bit Snow Leopard from here:

Hi there, i really appreciate you kind help and detailed explanation. Sorry to trouble you again, now I have change my model to a MacBookPro5,1 which uses the same chipset as my laptop. When I sleep, i get a black screen, my cpu lights is still on, but it wont respond to the power button, keyboard etc. I need to force shutdown to get it back up.

I also got the DSDT of a MacBookPro5,1 may I know what I can do with it?

Download the DSDT attached to this post and compare to yours:

The K50IN seems to be more widespread, there are install guides for it and files posted to various forums.

Here's one more: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=210118

I don't know how similar it is to yours but if it's similar enough maybe you can use some of the files and information to get yours working better.

I can't offer any further help with this, I've shown you where to look and what to look for. Try some of the things I've posted and report back with your findings.
