RiceX1055
I've been recently trying to install Snow Leopard on my PC. Mobo: Gigabyte GA-G31MX-S2 CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHZ RAM: 4gb (2x2gb Dual Channel) GSKILL DDR2 800 GPU: BFG 9800GTX 512MB LAN: RTL8110SC Audio: ALC 888 Everything works fine with a standard install of iAtkos S3. However my graphics card never works. It boots up perfectly into a 1024*768 resolution, and i can get that up to 1280*1024 by using "Graphics Mode = 1920*1080*32" in boot options, Not sure why it goes to 1280*1024 though. I have tried many different ways of configuring it. Using the Graphics Enabler option in the chameleon boot loader. Adding an EFI String to the bootloader. Using the NVEnabler,NVInjector, and Naitit kext's, making sure I added my device ID to NVDAResman.kext and NVDANV50Hal.kext. All with no sucess. When i added the Graphics Enabler and/or EFI String, OSX booted and gave me the 1024*768 res. With NVenabler,NVInjector, or Naitit, along with the modified NVDAResman + NVDANV50Hal kext's I just receive a blank screen upon start up, and NVEnabler usually probe fails. How can I get my 9800 GTX to work with 10.6.3? Thanks, RiceX1055
Gringo Vermelho
Try disabling the on-board Intel GMA graphics in the BIOS, make sure your 9800GTX is plugged into the blue PCI Express x16 slot. Download and run LSPCI, post the output here.
RiceX1055
The onboard Intel GMA, is disabled by default when the nVidia 9800GTX is plugged in, it is in the blue PCI-E slot as well, there is only one PCI-E slot so not much choice. (lol) I've attached the LSPCI, as it is rather long RiceX1055 LSPCI.txt
Gringo Vermelho
Sorry..didn't reveal anything, at least not to me. You still need to add the device ID to those kexts when using GraphicsEnabler or device properties "EFI" string. Do the NVDA* kexts appear in System Profiler -> Software -> Extensions? RiceX1055
The NVDA* kexts do appear in SystemProfiler. I wasn't aware that the device ID's needed to be added to the kext's when i was using the "EFI" + "Graphics Enabler" setup. Alas I'm trying now, with the ID's and Graphics Enabler. Update: Well that didn't work. NVEnabler still probe fails. I have Graphics Enabler in the boot menu + PCI-1 (thought it might change up something) Added my ID's to NVDAResman and NVDAN50Hal. Okay some progress here. I still get NVEnabler probe fail. But no blank screen on start up, and I booted into the system. System Profiler also has the info for my GPU. Still no res change though. Nor does it detect my second monitor. Could the NVDAResman be part of the problem? _Jay_
Are you conecting to your display via HDMI or DVI? If you are... I see that you have the very same card as my son and I and couple other members of this forum have been working on a fix but no luck as yet. There is a thread couple lines down, probably on the next page by now about the 9800s and black screen. So far we have had only one somewhat 'fix' and a work around. Work around= VGA. 'fix'= inject the VBios of an 8800gt rev1 that came from the same Manufacturer of your card. Hope this helps. Jay
RiceX1055
My graphics card is connected to my monitors through DVI - HDMI wires, i guess that is where the problem comes from. However the only reason they are is because if they aren't i can't get my resolutions in Windows. Ironic isn't it? Well anyways, My graphics did work on 10.6.2. I guess I will just go back to that as i have no other option, hopefully copying over the RTL Lan driver to 10.6.2 will work. Thank you for all your help RiceX1055

Thank you for all your help RiceX1055 Okay that first part was a bit confusing. Are you saying that the same thing is happening in windows 7? If so, then I would suggest you use the latest drivers from MICROSOFT themselves. Because I noticed that the Nvidia drivers kind of 'forgot' about the other GPUs other then the damn new Fermis. They rushed those drivers out for them and it's actually a lot of {censored} in windows 7 to crash. I can't even count on my hands and feet how much Crysis crashed because of Nvidia files until I downgraded to the older drivers. The current 'fix' we have so far is by injecting 8800gt bios into chameleon. Other than that is also DVI-VGA. Or get an ATI 5770. For me that card is a huge upgrade from the bfg 9800gtx+. Good Luck If you need help PM me. Jay
RiceX1055
The first part meant that if i hook my monitors up with a vga wire, and a VGA-DVI converter, Windows refuses to recognize my monitors and their proper resolutions. I've never had a problem with the nVidia graphics drivers myself they have always worked perfectly, and I find that the drivers from Windows Update are usually very outdated and cause more problems for me. When I said I would go back to 10.6.2 that was because I had my graphics card fully working there before, only I can't remember how I did it, I thought adding the ID's would work, but it didn't in 1.6.2 either. I will try to inject the 8800GT bios today. Thanks again RiceX1055
