derscheinwelt
Hello. My hackintosh is running quite fine without any problems on a Gigabyte P35 DQ6 with a c2d Q6600. I used the myHack installer which worked absolutely perfect. But after upgrading my Adobe CS4 to CS5 i have a problem I never cared before. Premiere and AfterEffects CS5 won't run on a 32 bit syste. Although everything should support 64bit and setting the bootflag to arch=x86_64, the system seems to think that theres just a 32 bit cpu installed. I hope there's a way to get it working because after upgrading to cs5 buying a genuine mac would exceed my budget.
FKA
the system seems to think that theres just a 32 bit cpu installed. how does it 'think' that? have you built a 64bit extensions.mkext for extra folder?
derscheinwelt
I don't know. But I used this app to test it: http://www.ahatfullofsky.comuv.com/English...ms/SMS/SMS.html And it says: MacPro 3,1 / 32bit cpu / 64bit efi / 64bit kernel boot mode / 32bit kernel. When I try to start premiere there's an error: can't run on this type of macintosh computer. So I suggest, that the problem is the 32 bit cpu. How can i build a 64bit extensions.mkext? I used kextutility and here is what mkext tool says about the extensions.mkext: Found 19 kexts: /Extra/Extensions/ElliottForceLegacyRTC.kext - org.tgwbd.driver.ElliottForceLegacyRTC (1.0) /Extra/Extensions/EvOreboot.kext - es.osx86.driver.EvOreboot (1.0.3) /Extra/Extensions/FakeSMC.kext - org.netkas.fakesmc (2.0) /Extra/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext - com.apple.iokit.IOATAFamily (9.9.9) /Extra/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext - com.apple.driver.AppleIntelPIIXATA (9.9.9) /Extra/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOATABlockStorage.kext - com.apple.iokit.IOATABlockStorage (2.5) /Extra/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOATAPIProtocolTransport.kext - com.apple.iokit.IOATAPIProtocolTransport (2.5) /Extra/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext - com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily (1.9) /Extra/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext - com.apple.iokit.AppleBCM5701Ethernet (2.3.5b17) /Extra/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntel8254XEthernet.kext - com.apple.driver.AppleIntel8254XEthernet (2.1.1b7) /Extra/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleRTL8139Ethernet.kext - com.apple.driver.AppleRTL8139Ethernet (1.5.3) /Extra/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBEthernet.kext - com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEthernet (2.1) /Extra/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBGigEthernet.kext - com.apple.driver.AppleUSBGigEthernet (1.2) /Extra/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleYukon2.kext - com.apple.iokit.AppleYukon2 (3.1.14b1) /Extra/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/Intel82574L.kext - com.apple.driver.Intel82574L (1.0.4b1) /Extra/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/nvenet.kext - com.apple.nvenet (1.0.73) /Extra/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/RealtekR1000SL.kext - com.chucko.driver.RealtekR1000 (2.0d1) /Extra/Extensions/NullCPUPowerManagement.kext - org.tgwbd.driver.NullCPUPowerManagement (1.0d2) /Extra/Extensions/SleepEnabler.kext - sk.triaxis.kext.SleepEnabler (1.0)

derscheinwelt
All other programms are working quite fine, just premiere and after effects don't. Are they working too? Hm. And what kernel version do you use? Or is it your "tickeled dsdt"?

The only true 64 bit apps in CS5 are Photoshop (has also 32 bit version), Premiere and AfterEffects. Premiere and AfterEffects wont run in 32 bit space in any way, they run only in 64 bit space! derscheinwelt
Thank you rednous, for repeating my problem Indeed premiere and after effects run on a 32bit system when a 64bit cpu is installed (like it does on my alu macbook which has 64 bit cpu, a 64 bit efi and sl 10.6.4 just running 32 bit kernel) But is there a solution how I can force the system to recognize the cpu as 64 bit, what the q6600 really is. derscheinwelt
… Although everything should support 64bit and setting the bootflag to arch=x86_64, … I really thank you for taking the time on sunday afternoon and trying to help. But I already set the bootflag to 64bit, use a kernel that supports 64bit, set the dsdt cpu information to xeon cpu, tried it with setting the cpu in smbios.plist wich even shouldn't be not necessary and althoug can't get it working at all. But as I mentioned even if sl is running in 32bit premiere would work if a 64bit cpu is installed, like it does on my macbook.
rednous
hmm, arch=x86_64 is for real Macs the above kernel flag i gave you is for Hackintoshes what im saying is that you're trying to run 10.6 in 64bit with a wrong kernel flag, thus actually you're not in 64bit space. try to run it with the following in /Extra/com.apple.boot.plist: <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string></string> the easiest way to see if your system is running in 32 or 64bit space is to open (run) System Profiler, go to Software (on the left side) and to look at the right side the line saying: 64-bit Kernel and Extensions: if it says Yes then you're running in 64bit space, otherwise it's 32bit space. derscheinwelt
Okay, i deleted the arch=x86_64 entry and replaced it with your emtpy code, but nothing changed.
rednous
strange... and what about the System Profiler check, does he reports you running 64bit space?
derscheinwelt
no. it still says no. but my macbook also says "no" and premiere works. maybe i should use another kernel?

I used #####(ATI) with ##### and got the same problem with 32-bit CPU, q6600. Darwin kernel is 10.0.0. OSX is 10.6.3. I have the app on reply#3. It shows the same as yours... MacPro 3,1 / 32-bit cpu / 64-bit efi / 64-bit kernel boot mode / 32-bit kernel. I'd been unable to get the 64-bit mode on both CPU and kernel... I could not install Premier pro and After effect CS5 since they were not on the installation screen...! Yesterday, I updated my OSX by 10.6.4 combo. After that, my q6600 turned to be 64-bit. I can now run my system into 64-bit mode fully.
derscheinwelt
I don't know why, but after 1. deleting everything that has been installed with previous hacks 2. repairing rights 3. reinstalling 10.6.4 combo 4. applying ##### after the update 5. a restart that didn't work and a restart with an empire efi bootcd that worked 6. installing myhack 1.1 7. changing the kernel bootflag to nothing my system really runs 64 bit! Thanks for all your comments and the little useful tips. But because I wasn't sure if it works and have a job to do, my new iMac 27" i7 is on the way.
