MacN3wb
I used to be able to play flash videos on my 10.5.8 install on both Safari 5, and Firefox 3.6.3; now, after installing Norton Security Suite, I can no longer *see* the videos, but I can *hear* the audio associated with the video. My guess is that Norton somehow interferes with the way video is displayed in both browsers. I haven't been able to figure out how or why it does this, and it's really starting to p*ss me off that it does this, and Norton have offered no help or assistance other than to refer me back to my ISP, who refers me back to Norton. Very aggravating. Anyone here have a clue as to wtf is going on here? All my other software works fine and stable, no KP's, really solid except for this one little niggly point. TIA! Iggy Uninstall Norton. You don't need it on a Mac (or Hack) Seriously. Why do you think you need it? I've had Macs for 6 yrs or so and have never needed any anti-spy/virus crapola on them. errandwolfe
Uninstall Norton. You don't need it on a Mac (or Hack) While I certainly won't advocate keeping Norton on your Mac, my question would be does Flash video play properly in Safari....I had a similar problem with black video but sound playing in Firefox but worked fine in Safari. Wound up having to go to an earlier Flash version to get it working in FF.

Iggy I fixed the problem. Apparently I needed to install both the older verson of flash, AND enable my browsers in the Norton Security Suite by selecting the app, then selecting the port(s) onto which I wish to allow activity. What a freaking headache -- all because of a version conflict between security apps and plugins. You'd think that the programmers would consider these things, especially ones that are constantly updated! I'm just glad it works Cheers! Wound up having to go to an earlier Flash version to get it working in FF. Norton is free from my ISP, and I've already had three DoS attacks since installing it. My problem was that flash videos would start, then all I'd see is a white box around a white video gadget playing the sound beautifully. It worked before Norton, but uninstalling, restarting and installing the older version and then telling Norton which apps and ports to allow traffic made it work. So far I'm impressed with how well the system is working, and I've picked up a used copy of 10.5.8 for $10 on Craig's list. Btw, both browsers (Safari 5, and FF 3.6.4) work flawlessly now If not for this site, the Wiki, and all the great folks here I'd be a sad Mac user. Cheers! blendi
everyone if video doesn't show and you hear the audio then install flash player 10.0 not 10.
hottnikkz
I'm experiencing the same thing, works fine in Safari but no go in Firefox 3.6.7. Any updates besides an older flash version? I'm a bit worried about vulnerabilities in that one. I tried to disable hardware acceleration in flash and it didn't help. Thanks in advance for any tips! pluda
Hello, the problem is not Norton, is the last flash player release who doesn't work good on 10.5.xxx systems. even with the older version, my safari 5 crashes several times using flash. As Steve say's, it's time for Adobe to really develop a good stable version of flash to mac users...
