F3N4TiK
Alright, InsanelyMac. I'm counting on you to help me escape from Windows. I'm using this guide. My hardware: Dell Precision 370 Intel Pentium 4 3.4 GHz nVidia GeForce GTS 250 Two SATA drives by Seagate, one 200GB (SATA-0), the other 1.5TB (SATA-1). I only have access to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, but I can quickly install Ubuntu if needed. My DVD drive is currently set to primary master. My problem: After step 7, and waiting for about a minute, I see a little "no" sign appear in the center of the screen. After running "-v" (verbose mode), the problem appears to be "Still waiting for root device". I've tried "-x -v" and "-f -v" and both have the same problem. What am I doing wrong? F3N4TiK
missing driver sata/pata enable ahci or install the drivers AHCI is enabled, but I don't understand how I could "Install" the drivers, as the Snow Leopard retail disc I'm using is non-rewritable. I haven't seen an installation screen yet. And I can't put a kext in a folder, because the DVD is read-only. If it isn't, can I open a boot cd iso in a program like 7-zip and manually add the kext? P2000Camaro
I had this problem the first time I tried installing OSX.. Turns out I hadnt made the partition active. I set it active and boom, it worked. I'm almost positive that's what my problem was.. Either that or I made it a logical partition and it was supposed to be a primary.. One of the two..lol. I know it had something to do with the way it was partitioned though! Can I somehow do it without breaking my Windows install I have on that drive? I'd prefer OSX but it would be nice to have something familiar in case OSX broke... MaLd0n
the problem is that "It means OS X fails to communicate with your hard drive controller. It's a driver or BIOS configuration issue." "check your BIOS and see if there's a setting to configure your SATA drives as AHCI, which should resolve your current issue. but, if your Dell is like my Inspiron 530S (desktop) and its BIOS doesn't have the AHCI option, set it at IDE and you must install IOATAFamily.kext (search at kexts.com)." F3N4TiK
I think this might work, if I can add that kext to the ##### CD, but I don't know of any way I can put it in there without a Mac. Is anyone willing to make and upload an iso for me? Or better yet, I have an 8GB flash drive I bet I can put to good use. spectheintro
Fanatic: I never had any luck with ##### on my Dell Inspiron 530. Honestly, I think your best bet is using a modded install to get up and running, and then using that as a staging area for your vanilla install. Try downloading iAtkos v7 and burning the ISO--it should let you boot into an OS X install. Then, you'd follow the basic instructions of my guide, making adjustments as you saw fit. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=221162 The thing is, you really need to have a working OS X install somewhere to get a hackintosh install started. Installing a hacked version, like iAtkos v7, just gives you the working area to do what you need to do elsewhere. Also, in Dell BIOSes, the way to enable AHCI is traditionally to have SATA operation be "RAID" as opposed to "IDE." Hope this was helpful. KyleBS
Try setting the boot flag to "idlehalt=0 -v" and see if it still stalls. I had that little trick work on one of my laptops a while back. If only I had some way to copy a retail disk to my USB drive in Windows, this might work. F3N4TiK
In case anyone's still following this, I've found luck with iPortable Snow, as CopyCatX (The program it uses) is universal, and I have my iMac G3 restoring my flash drive as I type. I'll keep this thread updated as I progress. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/222067-im-a-worthless-noob/#findComment-1502853 Share on other sites
F3N4TiK
I woke up this morning to a completed restore, put it in my USB port, started up my computer and... nothing. My BIOS won't even try to boot from it, it just goes straight to the Windows bootloader. ##### sees it, but won't start it either. I'm starting to understand why people buy real Macs.
