best supported hardware, respectively

I'd be surprised if this hasn't been discussed before, but i can't seem to find the answer on the boards or in the wiki. While the wiki does have the HCL, it's difficult to work out what is the best supported hardware I can buy.

So, I'm asking what the, currently, best supported hardware is. If money wasn't an objection, what would be the parts you would use to make your osx86 machine? Please don't tell me to look elsewhere; I have. The information I've found is often not current and almost always incomplete.

The first part you want to buy is an Imac 20"... then...

oh wait, that's it.

Unless you hate Apple, like me, and refuse to give them money, then you'll want something else.

I use a MSI 945GM2 with Pentium D 805 cpu, and x1600pro video card. Not the best, but only a $300 configuration (if you're lucky enough to live near a frys)

I got an P4 2.2 GHZ on an "older" board in an Alienware, Intel ethernet, ac97 audio, and I will be getting a Saphire Radeon X1600 for full video support. I have NO issues, unless apps need hardware acceleration from the video card, and thus that will be fixed when I get my X1600.

From the amount on this board, get a board like gwprod2's, NO sata, NO nforce, get a X1600 if you want high end video, get support dvd/cd burner(s) and you will be set. Most that have problems on this board have AMD, SATA, and nforce. I have none of those in my box and except for video, 100% working and stable.

I am with gwprod2. I hate Apple hardware but love the OS.
