Hangten
Yes, in some boards just hit F8 or F12 to choose boot device and select USB. Its not any different on my own install (EVGA X58) to my internal drives. I use Chameleon as my boot and some people in this community choose to install the boot loader on a USB stick. I am not sure what your hardware is but depending on what you do have... might not be easy. If you already have OSX up and running internally shouldn't be difficult. Read Tonymac If your using USB for your whole install its slower and if your like me running SSD's and overclocked running OSX off USB will slow it down horribly. *USB3 will not work at USB3 speeds on OSX
gsw953
I have 2 working,up to date Snow Leopard installs on usb drives that I use to test Apple updates first before installing on my internal drives. This was a tip I got from member imacken.Having an extra working install comes in very handy when testing new things out and makes it easy to boot up from and repair your main install if neccessary.Theres lots of guides on how to do this but it's basically the same a regular install, just choose your usb drive as your install destination Having a working portable Snow Leopard install has saved me from doing a complete reinstall several times.
