Hey all I am using the onboard ethernet adapter on my UD3-r Gigabyte board. If i am doing one web application at a time like surfing the web it is fast. If I am downloading a torrent it will be ok. If i am downloading a torrent and surfing he web. the surfing gets really slow. Or if I am doing a softwareup date while surfing it gets slow. Even if the torrent I am dowloading is like at 1kb it will slow down the entire connections. I am using Tranmission to download torrents and i do not think that the program is the issue. I am on Road Runner and it works great on my windows box. Please see Signature for all my specs. Thanks!

I've definitely noticed this as well, If I'm just torrenting, I can see the downloads cruise at 900+ KB/sec. If I'm just surfing the web, pages load almos instantly. But if I put the 2 together, it seems like DNS lookups take forever. My browser will sit at Resolving Host for extended periods of time.

It doesn't happen 100% of the time, but it's for sure noticeable. I though it was just my ISP (Comcast) being pricks, but maybe it is a further issue?

I havent noticed that yet. but not to thread jack but I have almost the same exact setup as you except I have the Gigabyte UD4P and only 6gb ram. Did you get a 9000 geekbench score right after the osx install? Cause im only at like 6800 but everything is working perfectly. im wondering If id be better off reinstalling SL thru something else besides Kakewalk.....

My scumbag ISP uses this (high DNS latency) as method of slowing down the connection too. When I ping its name server(s) after opening a torrent you can watch it happen in real time the higher the torrent speed/more torrents connected the longer it takes for DNS resolution of the IPs until it finally becomes unusable. What I have done is switch to using the OpenDNS service for my DNS settings in my router it seems to have solved the problem in the few years I have been using them. They still throttle the upload speeds pretty much always but downloading and surfing the web at the same time works well. You guys may want to make sure you don't have a large number of open connections set in your preferences as well this can slow you down I go with a maximum of 200.

I think you solved the problem for me MacUser. It's funny, just the other day I signed up for a DynDNS hostname to point at my Hack, and they offered me their "Internet Guide" DNS service (free). I said no. Just now I went back and set it up. I do think that this has fixed my problem. I should have known it was an ISP level thing, seeing as the internet went slow even while using my laptop over WiFi.

Will test it out some more and report back

I used empire efi and just added the audio file. Internet kext and that was all I did not use a distro. Empire efi allowed me to install snow leopard easily with monimal tweeks. So I got a 9000 rightt after somties it will go down to an 8400 or to a 9400 schore. Looking to over clock to get 11000 so it can be competitive against a real mac pro
