Well, about me, my problem isn't with the graphics, first I've used a retail DVD with Boot-123 CD & in the start of the installation it asked me to change MBR of the HDD to GUID which I can't do it because I've to repartition my hard disk, so I'll lose everything on it...

2nd, I've tried a copy called Snow OS X Universal 10.6 (432) GM v3.5, this version installed successfuly, but after first boot after the installation finish, when it was going to start up, it keeps giving me error while start up, & I still dunno why...

3rd, I said let's try which is in this post, so I've downloaded Snow Leopard 10.6.1-10.6.2 SSE2 SSE3 Intel AMD by Hazard, & installed it today & it's installed successfuly also but after the first restart after the installation it keeps telling me error in MBR...

I really dunno what's the problem with the starting up with MBR, why should I move to use GUID, many people used the MBR type & worked with them!!!!

hi guys

my hp dv6 has nvidia grpahics card...

anyway, my problem is that when i install win7, i cannot get into the osx and when i install osx i cannot go into win7. i don't know what to do. eng. ahmed told me to set the win7 as active inside osx but i cannot find it. there is also no place to set the osx partition as active inside win7. so i dont know how to have them both...

oto

hiii again , and so sorry for not replying for so long ,(i've been busy doing my final exams ,senior year Dental college)

so first of all Here is my detailed specification:

HP dv6 2140ee

Core i5 430m @2.26GHz Turbo to 2.56GHz

nVidia G105M with 512MB RAM with CUDA Cores

320GB HDD Hitachi @7200RPM

Intel PM55 chipset

3 GB RAM

IDT Audio

Broadcomm Wireless (not working ,just bluetooth works)

....................................

HERE IS A DETAILED GUIDE :

1- I recovered to Windows 7 using original HP recovery (optional ).

2- Download and Burn HAZARD's Snow Leopard 10.6.1 ,10.6.2 Intel Amd .

3- Reboot , and then boot from Internal DVDROM drive (external USB drive doesn't work !)

4- before entering installation press F8 .

5- Type cpus=1 busratio=17 (only needed if you have core i3/i5/i7 CPUs , check here for busratios )

5- let the loading finish ,then follow the instruction , format one drive to HFS+ ,its not Important if the disk is either MBR or GUID tested on both and both are ok)

and the partition must be primary not logical

6- In customization menu select only ( Legacy Kernel 10.2.0 + Chameleon RC3 PCEFI 10.5 ) and NOTHING ELSE .

7- When the installation finished , reboot ,take the DVD out , and boot by using ( cpus=1 busratio=17 )

8- Finish the installation wizard , you should be in your Desktop by now .

9- now , download Mac OSX 10.6.3 update dmg (it should be around 1.3GB) from apple .

10- download ##### .

11- navigate to your Snow leopards root /

12- delete the mach_kernel file . and keep that window open .

13- download Legacy Kernel 10.3 here

14- install it .

15- now there must be a new mach_kernel inside your SL root drive .

16- copy that new mach_kernel to your desktop ,and delete the one inside your root folder .

(if the new mach_kernel named Legacy_kernel , rename it to mach_kernel)

17- so , now you must have ,no mach_kernel inside your SL root folder , a new mach_kernel on your desktop (10.3 ,around 7 MB)

18- now do this with caution , open the Mac osx 10.6.3 installation, and while it do the installation keep an eye on your SL root folder , near 3/4 of the installation a new mach_kernel will appears inside , delete it as fast as you can , and then replace it with the 10.3 that is on your desktop ) ,

you must do that replacement as fast as you can ,because near the end of the installation of 10.6.3 you'll get a kernel panic .and after you reboot ,the original apple kernel will not let you in again .

(((( NOTE : DO THIS STEP IF ONLY YOU COULD NOT REPLACE THE KERNEL IN TIME BEFORE THE PANIC ::

after the panic , reboot inside win7 , and install macdrive 8 , the using mac drive replace the new mach_kernel with the one inside your SL drive and then reboot and follow the following , you should be able to extrack mach_kernel from legacy_kernel 10.3 dmg by using 7-zip))))

19- after the panic occurred , reboot using cpus=1 busratio=17 .

20- then repeat the 10.6.3 installation , but this time it should work without any problem .

21- after it finished DO NOT REBOOT.

22- open ##### .

23- Select ONLY , ##### for UnSupported CPU under the ##### + SystemUtilities (both)

24- let it finish , then reboot . and this time you only need to type busratio=17 and nothing else

(you may add this to your com.apple.Boot.plist and make it like this arch=i386 GraphicsEnabler=Yes busratio=17)

25- and also you must boot with ( -pci0 ) for only just ONE time (it makes you Graphic card detect HDMI cable removal)

now everything is working without any other extra kexts

Graphics FULL with QE/CI Support

Sound Working ( but menu bar volume controller doesn't work)

WiFi not working , bluetooth working

shutdown /reboot full working

and I'm ready for any question .

WISH YOU ALL THE BEST

Special thanks for you dastan, I'll try it & if there's any problem I'll let you know, & god bless you in your exams & congratulations for finishing college, I'll start my final exams tomorrow, I'm also at my final year in electronics & communications engineering....LOL

thank you Ahmad , GOD bless you too .

and believe me anything is fun and exciting during examinations except studying LLOOOOLL

and really there is no need for thanking me , its the least thing I can do for this great forum .

THANK YOU ALL

Help me with still waighting for root device in dv5 1060ej

I never encountered that but you can try to select fakesmc 1 insted of 2.5 and se if that can help in Hazard's Customization menu

or google or

dastan GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!

thank you so much for this detailed guide. gonna try it soon and let you know.

i just need to know one more thing.

which os do you install first? win7 or osx?

and besides this, how do you fix the other installation from the working installation, because, when i started with win7, then installed osx, i couldn't go into my win7... and when i installed win7 back, i couldn't go into the osx (something like nst_mbr...)

so, can you please write also detailed guide of which goes first and how to fix it after you install the other one.

again, thank you so much for the detailed guide. will let you know soon how it went.

thanks,

oto

you are welcome otomat ,and thanks

I personally installed Windows 7 first and then Snow Leopard

I can access my win without any problem , as i mentioned i used PCEFI 10.5

, if you installed OSX first and then Windows ,there an easy guide to get your chameleon boot screen back :

first Insert any Leopard or snow leopard distro DVD (ideneb ,iatkos, hazard no problem) and reboot and then boot from it

-press F8 before entering installation

-type -s (if immediately restarted ,try with -s cpus=1 busratio=17)

-when the loading finished , type the following

fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0

flag 1

quit

reboot

*the 0 in rdisk0 is the number of your Hard Disk Device

*the 1 in flag 1 is the number of your partition

for example in my case I have one Disk device so rdisk0

and my partition table is

partition 0 system

partition 1 win 7

partition 2 recovery

partition 3 Snow Leopard

so in my case it will be like this

fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0

flag 3

quit

reboot

after all that you should be able to select your win 7 and OSX inside the chameleon

also you can do all the above inside windows using easyBCD ,but i don't know much about it ! ;)

wish you the best ! :)

By the way, should the Mac partition be primary partition or it can be logical, & if it should be primary, how could I make a new primary partition, as it always allow me to make logical partition, & if I need to make a primary one, it keeps telling me there's no empty slots in the MBR, so what's the solution, I've used Acronis Disk Director & Partition Wizard Professtional Edition, please help!!

as you guessed it , it should be a Primary partition ( i'll add this to the guide )

I used Partition Wizard Home Edition ( Free HERE )

and if that doesn't work ,try to remove one of your previous partitions ,as far as I know windows 7 natively supports only up to 4 primary partitions including the system partition as well (the one with 100-200 MB)

and as I see it in your post you have 5 partitions (number of boot0:'s)

and if you done all that and still got that error ,try to set the SL partition as active (as mentioned in post #36 in this thread)

try that and tell us how it went !

good luck :(

windows 7 natively supports only up to 4 primary partitions including the system partition as well (the one with 100-200 MB)

and as I see it in your post you have 5 partitions (number of boot0:'s)

yes I've 5 partitions, but not all of them was primary, only 3 partitions, I've:

System (200MB)..........Primary

Windows 7 (122GB)......Primary

Recovery (13GB).........Primary

My own stuff (300GB)..Logical

Snow Leopard (30GB)..Logical

My HDD is 500GB, & as you see why couldn't I make another primary partition as I've only 3 primaries only!!

Also I've tried your disk utility but the professional one, I think it's better than the home edition one, but the strange somthing that I couldn't make a new partition using a free space to be taken from existing one!!

By the way, I've got an idea but I don't know if it can solve my problem or not, if resized any partition to be less than it's original capacity, then I left the unlocated space as unpartitioned space, then partitioned it using the disk utility of mac installer, will it be a primary partition??!!!!!

The last idea didn't work also, the mac installer couldn't locate a free space & partition it, & I tried to make a partition using the Partition Wizard & set it to primary, this option disappears after creating the partition, really I got stuck with windows 7, do you know if there's any disk utility can run from the DOS??

yes I've 5 partitions, but not all of them was primary, only 3 partitions, I've:

System (200MB)..........Primary

Windows 7 (122GB)......Primary

Recovery (13GB).........Primary

first of all Windows do support up to 4 primary partitions but original Windows Disk management wont let you create the 4th one as it will automatically creates a Logical one .

the solution for your case is first of all backup your stuff in "My own stuff (300GB)..Logical"

and then delete the 300GB and 30 GB Logical partitions completely ,now you got 330GB Unallocated space

then by using Partition Wizard NOT Windows Disk Management ,create the 4th primary partition ,and do the installation on that one .

.... and yes Mac's Disk Utilities wont recognize unallocated spaces !

Gooooood Luck :D

6- In customization menu select only ( Legacy Kernel 10.2.0 + Chameleon RC3 PCEFI 10.5 ) and NOTHING ELSE .

when you was discussing the installation guide you said that we should install Legacy Kernel 10.2.0, & when I select it the first time I tried to install Mac OS X, I saw the explaination brief about it, it said that this Kernel made for old intel processors & don't install it for C2D & i7 processors, so why did you choose it??

because all the old intel CPUs (pentiums) and core i3/i5 EXCEPT i5 750 are UN-Supported by apple's vanilla kernel

but all the Core2Duo's are supported by vanilla and don't need Legacy kernel .

and the only working kernel for the i5's (except i5 750) is the Legacy_kernel as far as I tried .

Hi dastan

I need your help. Once I install os-x, i cannot get into win7 anymore. I get an error message...

How can I fix this?

thanks,

otomat

I dont know the exact solution for that problem because mine worked directly without anything ,but

it maybe related to a problem in windows MBR , try below and see if it helps

FIRST METHOD

first Insert any Leopard or snow leopard distro DVD (ideneb ,iatkos, hazard no problem) and reboot and then boot from it

-press F8 before entering installation

-type -s (if immediately restarted ,try with -s cpus=1 busratio=17)

-when the loading finished , type the following

fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0

flag 1

quit

reboot

*the 0 in rdisk0 is the number of your Hard Disk Device

*the 1 in flag 1 is the number of your Windows partition

now this should make the windows partition as active

then place your windows 7 DVD inside and reboot from it

from the 2nd window of the installation wizard select repair in the lower area

follow the instruction and select Startup repair ( i don't exactly remember the terms )

after that you should be able to enter your windows 7 but not OSX (you don't see chameleon )

after that ReInsert any Leopard or snow leopard distro DVD (ideneb ,iatkos, hazard no problem) and reboot and then boot from it

-press F8 before entering installation

-type -s (if immediately restarted ,try with -s cpus=1 busratio=17)

-when the loading finished , type the following

fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0

flag 3

quit

reboot

*the 0 in rdisk0 is the number of your Hard Disk Device

*the 3 in flag 3 is the number of your OSX partition

SECOND METHOD

if not try to replace chameleon with PC EFI 10.5 here

, I never tried that but i think it works ,because before ##### you should be able to enter win7 and OSX just fine (after installing PCEFI in HAZARD's distro) but after installing ##### this problem occurs

Thanks dastan. I'll give it a try. Currently I did not succeed with your detailed guide.

First, i had to customize more stuff than what you wrote... Otherwise, the computer would keep rebooting.

The second problem is that while I'm updating to 10.6.3 I cannot find new mach_kernel which is being written. I only found mach_kernel.orig and I don't know if you meant this one. Could it be a hidden file? How can I show those invisible files?

I still didn't succeed installing osx and I also need to check if I can get win7 back...

It is a bit frustrating but I don't give up. I hope that with your help, I'll make it happend.

Thanks a lot!!!

the important thing is that you wont give up , mine took 2 weeks with at least 10 OSX and Windows format !!!

and about the mach_kernel , its a visible file and named exactly mach_kernel ,

and if the 10.6.3 wont write the kernel ,you wont need to replace it as the 10.2 will let you in after the reboot,if not, before the installation of 10.6.3 try to directly delete the old one (10.2 that comes with the installation) and copy the new one(10.3) and be careful that the installation wont replace it ( the original apple kernel is about 17 MB while legacy is about 7MBs)

and remember that each laptop has its unique method working for it . what are your specs ,it may be helpful if you post it .

i try to help with the little things i know .

Hi dastan

I suspect that the mach_kernel is invisible because when I tried to copy the file from my desktop, it said that it cannot replace it because I am trying to replace an invisible file. If you don't know what I mean, I'll make you a picture of it. I'll check my specs with everest and write you them soon. Thanks for everything,

;) to show all files type the following inside Terminal :

defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE

KillAll Finder

to hide them again type

defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE

KillAll Finder

hope it helped :)
