Microsoft pay them a large sum of money? No offense that is stupid. Microsoft isn't even apart of Steve Jobs keeping OSX on Macs. If Jobs would just do it, then more hardware would support it and such. I am migrating to OSX86 but will dual boot into XP for games and I would buy OSX86 off the shelf.

How much work would it involve? Create BIOS support. Work with nVidia and ATI to create drivers that work for video cards... what else is there? Maybe a little reworking of the kernel to deal with non-Core processors. But aside from that, if it's possible with the hacks we have here, it's super-doable by Apple.

The work has been invested to STOP it from working on a standard PC. Reverse the work to stop it, and you have an OS that works fine on a PC.

If Apple sold Leopard or Tiger for $200 a shot, I'd buy it. All they have to do is post minimum system requirements. Pentium 4/D Intel 945G motherboard, ATI Radeon X1600. 1gb RAM. I have that system. It works. I will give money to Evil, Malicious, Hateful Apple. I never thought I'd say it, but if I can have a working system that I neednt fear will be ruined by Apple to spite me; I'll give them $$.

For me the question of DRIVER SUPPORT comes first. If my Laptop's hardware was 100% supported I might consider to buy the OS. However, driver development and OS distribution allways go side-by-side; in other words: if Apple would f**ing get their heads stuck back out of the sky & back to earth and announce a freely purchasable version for x86 companies would immediately start to develop drivers, etc. pp..

.. I am sure that will happen, but it will again take years (as always with Apple, they are so friggin sluggish it hurts .. :dev: )

Aside from games, a lot of PC software has Mac analogues. Better Mac Analogues. It's just finding them.

I'm still trying to find a unibin that will allow me to auto-hide applications when I move to another one. Liteswitch does that, but doesnt work. ASM is slooooooooow.

If you can eliminate gaming, or just play a console, Windows looses all its power. Literally. I mean build you a hackintosh Intel P4 system, with X1600 or GMA950 graphics, ac97 audio, supported dvd-rw drive, supported network card, firewire card/ports, and you have a fully working machine that can do ANYTHING you need. Hell if you put the X1600 in, you CAN game on it if you want. Drivers and such are just not here do to Apple and Steve Jobs.

yea, and fact is that many of the new boards are still supporting EFI and the BIOS is just emulated (or somethig)

so WHY are they still using the BIOS? Because of Apple hast first to sell some machines?? when do you think will EFI become standard for PCs?

Think about it, everyone here is using Mac OS 10.4 x86 illegally, so I don't think Apple would take any suggestions from a site of thousands of people who use their software illegally. If Apple made OSX for PCs, then most everyone here would just download it illegally.

I personally would buy it, since I support Apple, and not Microsoft. I want Microsoft to be history; but it doesn't work that way. :dev:

so lets think a step further...

when the mac pro is out.. what IS the mac? the harddrive? no. the RAM? no

The graphic card? no the intel processors? NO

its the logic board.

when im thinking in the right steps, normal pc hardware should work with the "mac pro" logic board. and it isnt illegal to throw away the standard graphic card and buy a better one, so anyone have to release drivers... or not?

so a half legal way to get a cheap mac in future is to get a naked logic board and buy the other stuff you need from your local hardware dealer.

the question is HOW to get only the logic board...

correct me if my thoughts are not right...
