To fix the native login resolution problem, there's a crude fix: limit everything to one resolution (your monitor's optimal resolution) so that there are no other possible resolutions to boot into.

I use a program called DisplayConfigX. It lets you customize which resolutions/refresh-rates are available in the main Display Preferences. Since my monitor's optimal resolution is 1680x1050@60Hz, I made that the only available resolution through DisplayConfigX.

Should I add that trick to the genius bar?

BTW: The DVI problem is still annoying the heck out of me. Jas made it sound like it would work perfectly. I'm convinced that the new Mac Pro computer will force Apple to loosen its grip on drivers a bit. Even they don't, I'm sure we'll find a way.

BTW BTW: The main problem with monitor sleep is related to the system kernel. The only way to get working sleep is to use 10.4.1, which is the only build that has 100% working power management. After that build, Apple messed around to make things more irritating. We currently use a 10.4.4 kernel in all our OS X installations because 10.4.5 and up all have even more stringent power management locks, which would prevent most of us from even booting our computers. You need a Core Duo processor to take advantage of the newer kernels.

Yeah, the Mac Pro will make drivers start popping out of the woodwork due to people able to put their own cards in. Heck, Nvidia might even do it, but I doubt it. Then we can put more hardware in our hackintoshes and just run them as true Mac computers run them.

Hi folks!

Here are my experiences with the X1600 AGP: I'm using OS 10.4.7 on an Athlon 64 3400+ with an GeCube X1600 passive. X1000 drivers are patched with Borisbadenov's method.

The main speed problem was the GUI. I got Xbench results of only 8.5. With the tool QuartzSimple you can enable/disable QuartzExtreme 2D and Beam Sync. Using QuartzExtreme 2D and no Beam Sync I got a result of 63.85. Using the 1.6 AMD64 AGP Driver, I got a result of 119.82! And with Beam Sync disabled the result was 342.79!!!!!!!!

But's not all so fine as it looks. Using the AGP driver, I have no more CoreImage, QuarzExtreme or QuartzExtreme 2D.

Here are some links to the patches I used:

Interesting. It seems the AMD chips are having alot of issues, weird ones. Doesn't make sense why you have those results unless there an conflicth with the AMD chip. I am glad I had this P4 system since all my other systems are AMD. :happymac:

After succesfull AGPGArt installation try to reenable QuartzExtreme with QuartzSimple.

I have Nforce3+9600Pro AGP. Without AGPGart, interface was slow until disble QuartzExtreme, but after AGPGart I can enable QuzartzExtreme and interface remaining fast !

Sorry for the slight thread necromancy, but what experiences have you all had with the GeCube X1600 Pro 256 MB AGP card? There seem to be some posts saying it works completely (even with DVI-out) and others that describe a complete trainwreck. I'd love to find an AGP card that works with full resolution support, QE/CI, no mouse tearing, and DVI for my Hackintosh. Thanks!

I have the GeCube X1600 passive 256MB AGP and it works great. With the patch from NeoPheus I have CI/QE/QE 2D, mode selection and all you want. I'm running in 1600x1200x32 in 75 Hz with DVI-VGA-adaptor.

All AGP Cards are slowed down 'cause they are only recognized as PCI. In combination with the AGPGart driver from joblo10 I got amazing speed results in Xbench. Quartz Text is normally 69, GUI 8. With the driver I get Text 550 and GUI 345! But no more CI/QE and the 1.x driver isn't loaded at the next reboot. Try the 2.x version next time. But the system is also without it fast enough, even to play games.

I could recommend the card, it runs very good and especially 'cause there is a passive cooled version available, so no noise at all. But maybe it is depending on your hardware, so look at my hardware configuration.
